City police arrest Jamestown woman for allegedly trying to rob U.S. News on East Second St....

A Jamestown woman has been arrested for allegedly trying to rob the U.S. News Store in the East Second St. Plaza earlier this month.  City Police Captain Bob Samuelson says officers arrested 27 year-old Jena Blocker early Thursday morning on a warrant at her home.  He says they got a lot of good information on Blocker from the clerk at U-S News... who was pushed away from the counter by the would-be bandit after the employee tried to press the store alarm.  Samuelson says their detailed description also helped locate Blocker... along with several tips phoned into their anonymous tip-line.  He says Blocker entered the eastside store back on Jan. 5, and, handed the clerk a note -- demanding money from the cash register.  He would only the motive was geeting the money.  Samuelson says she is cooperating with the investigation.  After not being able to get any money... Samuelson says Blocker ran out of the store... and, police got out a description of Blocker and what she was wearing.  She was arraigned in city court on a third-degree attempted robbery charge... and, sent to the county jail on $20,000 bail.


City man accused of driving stolen car while drunk jailed without bail...

A Jamestown man pulled over on Route 60 for allegedly having no license plates on his car has been accused of driving a stolen car -- drunk.  State Police in Jamestown say they pulled over 49 year-old Rodney Thomas yesterday morning in the town of Ellicott.  Troopers say further investigation found the vehicle was stolen from a Jamestown-area car dealer.  Police took Thomas to the State Police barracks in Jamestown where a breath test determined his blood alcohol content to be point-14-percent.  Thomas was arraigned in Ellicott Town Court on charges of Felony DWI... Felony aggravated unlicensed operation... and, Felony Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.  He also faces other traffic violations... and, was sent to the county jail without bail.
