In May 2021, a significant bronze statue depicting a runaway slave from the Underground Railroad tableau in Dow Park, Jamestown, was stolen.
This statue, created by the late artist David Poulin, honored the anonymous fugitives who sought freedom via the Underground Railroad. Its theft has left a profound void in our community's historical narrative.
The Underground Railroad Tableau Committee, in collaboration with the City of Jamestown, is spearheading efforts to commission a replica that seamlessly integrates with the existing statues of Silas Sherman and Catherine Harris.
The Jamestown City Council has pledged $30,000 toward the estimated $100,000 project cost. We are seeking additional funding to cover the remaining expenses and ensure the statue's reinstallation.
