(**Update)Lexi Hughan Memorial dedicated in Dow Park...
A six-month effort to create a permanent memorial to the Jamestown teenager tragically killed by a hit-and-run driver on New Year's Eve of 2021 culminated this morning.  Family and friends joined with several city leaders to cut the ribbon on the Lexi Hughan Memorial bench and picnic table in Dow Park.  The memorial... which is located next to the intersection of Washington and West Fifth Streets... was spearheaded by city resident Melissa Paterniti.  She took on the project with Lexi's mother, Sarah Rafolowski, whom she worked with at The Resource Center... and, she also worked with Jeff Hughan, Lexi's father.  While she never knew Lexi, she kind of knew her through her parents.  She says understood how devastating her loss was to her parents.  Paterniti says she saw the markshift memorial across the street... and, the fact the weather was taking it's toll.  She says that's when she started talking to city officials, and others about a more permanent memorial.  Lexi's mother, Sarah Rafolowski, says having the dedication on Pride Day in Jamestown was important to her, and would be for Lexi as well.  Lexi Hughan was 15 when she was struck and killed when she was struck by a car carrier, operated by 60 year-old Randall Rolison of Jamestown at the corner of Washington and West Fifth Streets.
