City of Jamestown looking to move ahead with improving lighting in North Main St. viaduct...
City officials in Jamestown have begun looking at a project to better illuminate... and, improve the looks of the viaduct under the railroad tracks on North Main Street.  City Development Director Crystal Surdyk discussed the need for better lighting in that area where public safety became a concern when the underpass area drew several homeless people in recent months.  Surdyk says they are expecting the total project to cost up to $150,000.  Surdyk says that's because, when they first looked at the project last year, the cost was estimated at $100,000.  However, she says that'll increase because the city will have to put conduit into the viaduct for the lighting and that will increase the cost.  Right now... Surdyk says they just have conceptual drawings of the project.  She says she recently met with Police Chief Tim Jackson and Board of Public Utilities General Manager Dave Leathers about moving forward with focusing on just lighting as part of a "Phase-one" project.  Surdyk says... while they would like to move ahead on the entire project... priority should be given to the lighting part of it.  She says the initial cost for the lighting work was estimated at $32,000.
