Gas prices in Jamestown area drop slightly from last week...
The average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline in the Jamestown-area is down slightly this week.  That from AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report... which says the cost is now slightly below $3.70 for the first week of June.  AAA says last week's average price was just over $3.70... and is about the same as this time last year.  Officials say the national average price for a gallon of gasoline has fallen 6-cents since last week to $3.53, the largest one-week drop thus far for 2024.  AAA says the primary reasons are tepid demand, and a lower oil price.  Meanwhile, the Atlantic Hurricane season has begun, and forecasters are predicting it will be very active.  It’s important to remember that a storm impacting the Gulf Cost oil production and refining centers could affect gas prices.

Jamestown's "Mr. Baseball" has been honored as part of the dedication of a new, large video screen that will allow fans to see the Tarp Skunks games from the concourse at Diethrick Park.  Jamestown Community Baseball member Greg Peterson hosted a ceremony prior to last night's Tarp Skunks home game to honor Russ Diethrick... whose name is already on the ballpark.  Peterson says the "Bucks 4 Baseball" fund... set up to support local baseball at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation in 1997... came in handy.  He says there was just enough money there to do the project... which will feature a log with a hand-drawn portrait of Russ when there's no baseball being played on the field.  Peterson says in addition to the video... audio from the call of the game will also be heard from the video.  Russ Diethrick was overwhelmed by the honor... and, says... while minor league baseball left in 2019... the game lives on.
