Man seriously hurt in town of Carroll Motorcycle crash...
A Frewsburg man is being treated for serious injuries after being thrown from his motorcycle during an early morning crash today in the town of Carroll. Sheriff's officers say 21 year-old Wesley Anderson was westbound on Wheeler Hill Road shortly before 5 a.m. when he lost control of the bike... and, it overturned and he was ejected. Deputies say Anderson was flown to the UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa. for treatment. There is no word on his condition. There have been no charges filed.
City Council approves hiring four new firefighters to replace those leaving the service...
The Jamestown City Council has approved four new firefighters be hired to replace people who are retiring or leaving the profession. Lawmakers last night approved the measure unanimously... which Deputy Fire Chief Matt Coon says were included in the 2024 budget. Coon says once the new firefighters are trained... it will bring their overall numbers to 66. He says they are still looking for two more SAFER Grant fire recruits. These four were already in the 2024 budget. A total of eight firefighters were to be funded by the federal SAFER Grant that was approved by council for the fire department last year. Four others were funded through the city's American Rescue Plan allocation. Coon says 58 of the firefighters are assigned to "fire suppression..." while the remaining will be assigned to one of the city's two ambulances. He says they are planning to have the new hires sent to the state's Fire Academy in Montour Falls. The SAFER Grant... which totals $1.8-million... allows the city to hire eight additional firefighters, and, covers their salaries for three-years.
City Fire Department finally receives second ambulance...
The Jamestown Fire Department has now received it's second ambulance. City lawmakers approved the purchase over a year ago... and, didn't receive delivery until late last week due to a national backlog. Deputy Chief Coon says they're pleased to finally have that second vehicle... because it will provide some relief to neighboring departments that have had to help out when the department's one ambulance, and Alstar Ambulance are already on calls -- or in service. Coon says the department intends to have both ambulances staffed 24-hours a day through the week.
Jamestown woman gets two-year federal prison sentence for role in drug trafficking operation...
A city woman affiliated with a well-known local drug trafficker has been sentenced to two-years in federal prison for selling and distributing methamphetamine. U.S. Attorney Trini Ross Monday announced that 42 year-old Tracey Wynn of Jamestown had been convicted of conspiring to possess with intent to distribute, and distributing, 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, received the term from U.S. District Court Judge Richard Arcara. Prosecutors say between Sept. 2018 and Jan. 2019, Wynn was an associate of Douglas Beardsley, and sold meth supplied by Beardsley. On different occasions... Wynn sold meth to an individual working with the Drug Enforcement Administration. In Aug. of 2017, investigators raided Wynn’s residence and recovered a quantity of methamphetamine, about $347 in cash, drug paraphernalia, as well as items indicating children lived at the residence. On October of 2019, Wynn was stopped for a traffic violation... and, found in possession two digital scales, one of which had crystal meth on it. He was also found to be driving with a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia... among others.
Forestville man on several traffic and drug-related charges following vehicle pursuit in the north county...
A north county man has been arrested on numerous charges after allegedly leading police on a car chase last Thursday morning in the town of Sheridan. Sheriff's officers say they tried to stop 25 year-old Philip Decker of Forestville... who was known to have a suspended license... for a traffic infraction... shortly before 9 a.m. last Thursday. However... he failed to comply... and, led investigators on a vehicle pursuit from the town of Sheridan into the town of Hanover. Deputies say Decker abandoned his vehicle on Routes 5 and 20 -- near Hanford Road -- and fled on foot. Decker was later located at a residence in Hanford Bay and taken into custody. Officers found Decker in possession of 101.4-grams of Methamphetamine and 9,7 grams of crack cocaine as well as other drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the county jail... and, held for centralized arraignment.
Jamestown man arrested after leading police on chase with his motorcycle...
A city man faces a number of traffic and other motor vehicle charges after leading Jamestown police on a pursuit of his motorcycle early last Saturday morning. City police say a patrol in the downtown area spotted 26 year-old Darius Franklin on his two-wheeler... which had no license plates on it. Officers say they were aware that Franklin's driving privileges had been revoked... and, attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However... after activating their emergency lights and sirens... Franklin then failed to comply... and led police on the chase through the northside of the city. During the pursuit... Franklin was seen running multiple stop signs and red lights, and also ride the motorcycle on a public sidewalk of a residential area. Soon after that... the pursuit came to an end after Franklin attempted to leave the bike at his home. He was arrested without further incident... and, was also found to be intoxicated. Franklin faces charges including: first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation... DWI... reckless driving... 10 counts of failure to stop at a stop sign... and four counts of passing a red light.
