Jamestown man pleads guilty in connection with drug kingpin's federal case...
A city man has pleaded guilty in federal court to selling large amounts of fentanyl, heroin, and methamphertamine in the Jamestown-area... and, trying to cover-up what happened in one overdose death. U.S. Attorney Trini Ross announced Wednesday that 51 year-old Curtis Snyder entered the guilty plea in U.S. District Court in Buffalo to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, heroin, fentanyl, and methamphetamine. Prosecutors say Snyder was an associate and co-conspirator of drug ring-leader Rocco Beardsley. On April 9, 2019... a person identified as J.A. was found dead from an apparent overdose at a Jamestown home... and, Beardsley was believed to be involved in the overdose. About a month after J.A.’s overdose death, Beardsley sent Snyder to another individual's home to force that person to make a video regarding Beardsley’s lack of involvement with J.A.’s overdose death. In exchange... Snyder would receive a “bundle” of heroin/fentanyl. The individual complied and made the video, stating that Beardsley was not present at J.A.'s residence on the date of his overdose death. Snyder faces a maximum of 20 years in federal prison, and a fine of $1-million. Sentencing is scheduled for next January.
County Health Dept. warns of two rabid cat cases in Jamestown...
Two feral or stray cats have been found in the city of Jamestown that have died from the rabies virus. That from the Chautauqua County Health Department which confirmed the deaths late Wednesday. Officials add that no other cats have been identified as having rabies and currently the Health Department has no other open investigations of potentially rabid cats. The first cat apparently got the virus during an animal fight. The second was found in poor health by a resident who often feeds feral cats. The resident was scratched by the cat... and, had to be treated with post-exposure prophylaxis. County Director of Environmental Services Jessica Wuerstle says -- "These incidents should serve as a reminder to residents to take precautions around feral or stray animals and that animal rabies is a serious public health concern and continues to be present in Chautauqua County." Wuerstle adds that animals... such as feral or stray cats... that are not current on their rabies vaccine are at risk. Only mammals can transmit the rabies virus, so animals like birds, snakes, and fish do not pose a risk for rabies.
