Molitor sounds of on controversial Wetlands proposal for Chautauqua Lake...
The Republican candidate for the 150th New York State Assembly seat has sent a five-page analysis to the state Department of Environmental Conservation of the proposed changes to it's new wetlands regulations.  In a press release... Fredonia's Andrew Molitor says there needs to be "a reasonable balance between environmental issues and landowner rights."  Molitor says "freshwater wetlands are invaluable resources for flood protection, wildlife habitat, and open space.  At the same time, landowners have legitimate concerns that over-regulation can damage property values, impede their ability to use their property in a reasonable
manner, and/or adversely impact the use and enjoyment of other natural resources, such as Chautauqua Lake and many other lakes in our State.”  He says his biggest concern... which is shared by many others... is the proposed expansion of DEC wetland authority over every wetland, regardless of its size, that is contiguous to Chautauqua... Cassadaga... Findley and Bear Lakes... and, Lake Erie."  He says "this dramatic expansion of DEC authority exceeds both the language and intent of the statute."
