Gillibrand marks milestone for anti-gun trafficking legislation...
A provision in the bi-partisan Safer Communities Act sponsored by New York's junior U-S Senator recently passes a milestone with more than 3,000 guns seized by law enforcement. Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand credited the two-year old "Hadiya Pendleton and Nyasia Pryear-Yard Gun Trafficking and Crime Prevention Act..." for getting 1,000 confirmed illegal guns off the streets in the past six months alone... and that included the arrest of a gun trafficker in the Jamestown-area... and, others across New York and the nation. She called it "incredible progress..." and, more than 100 of those arrested have already been convicted. Gillibrand says lawmakers still have "a lot of work to do to fight the scourge of gun violence, we’ve made incredible progress prosecuting criminals and getting dangerous and deadly weapons off our streets in the two years my anti-gun trafficking statute has been in effect." In the future... she's co-sponsoring a measure to crack down on so-called "Ghost Guns" by requiring at least some metal in them to metal detectors can spot them. In the immediate future... Gillibrand says -- "I anticipate many more gun seizures, arrests, and convictions as a result of this statute in the years to come, and I will continue to work with my colleagues across the aisle to pass commonsense gun safety legislation."
Gillibrand says rejected House Continuing Appropriations Resolution would have likely been dead on arrival in the Senate...
It's back to the drawing board for House Republicans after 15 of them voted against the latest Continuing Resolution to avoid a government shut-down at the end of the month. House Speaker Mike Johnson's budget plan would have included funding of the federal government for the new fiscal year... and, a mandate that states require proof of citizenship when people register to vote. The citizenship provision is a non-starter for New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand... adding she didn't even know what that means. Gillibrand says "our voting rolls are really good." She calls it a "dumb idea..." and, she believed that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York will reject that provision... so there may be a shorter-term CR that lasts until the end of the current year.

Public safety and affordability are the main issues why the Republican and Conservative parties candidate for New York's 150th Assembly District is running for office. Westfield's Andrew Molitor is running for the seat currently held by retiring Assemblyman Andy Goodell. In the area of public safety, Molitor -- who is currently Chautauqua County First Assistant District Attorney -- wants to reverse laws that he says have made it easier for criminals to get away with their illegal activities. When it comes to affordability, the Westfield Republican says the first thing he would do is cut back on regulations in Albany that have made it difficult for area businesses to operate. An example he gave is the Scaffold Law... which places liablity on an employer when an employee or volunteer is negligent. He says it's causing insurance to go up for a lot of businesses. Molitor is running against Fredonia Democrat Michael Bobseine.
