Jury selection underway in Tucker Richard murder trial...
After two previous delays... jury selection for a town of Ellicott teenager accused of shooting and killing his stepfather is underway in Chautauqua Count Court. Court Clerk Tracie Lorenzo says the court was still working to empanel a jury late Wednesday afternoon for the second-degree murder trial of Tucker Richard. Richard... who was 18 at the time of the incident on January 6, 2023... allegedly got into an argument with 57 year-old Scott Blake. An Ellicott Police detective said during a preliminary hearing that the two had "regularily argued..." and police had been called to the Willard Street Ext. home multiple times in the past. Apparently the two had argued about Richard's messy room before a physical altercation led Richard to wrestle a gun away from Blake... and, he allegedly shot him. Once the jury is empaneled... opening arguments will take place.
Person reportedly commits suicide after crashing car into Seneca Gaming's Oil Spring location in Allegany County...
One person reportedly shot and killed themself after crashing their car into the Seneca Gaming and Entertainment Oil Spring location in Cuba late Monday morning. Cattaraugus County Sheriff's officers report that they... along with State Police... Seneca Nation Marshall's... and, Cuba Police were called to the scene on West Shore Road about 11:30 a.m. after a motor vehicle drove into the main entrance of the building. Deputies say they found the lone occupant inside the vehicle -- deceased -- after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The gaming facility was shut-down... and, all patrons and staff were safely evacutated. Sheriff's officers say the investigation into the incident is continuing... and there is no threat to the community.
Borrello calls new gun laws signed by Hochul nothing more than "window dressing..."
State Senator George Borrello does not believe a package of six new gun laws recently signed by Governor Kathy Hochul will make New Yorkers safer... as she says they will. During a recent interview... the Sunset Bay Republican cited the fact that the state already has the nation's strictest gun laws. Borrello says these new laws will do more to restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens... and, they have really done nothing to help (prevent) crime, and public safety." Borrello says the issue is not gun control, but "criminal control." He brought up the effects of the state's bail reform law that took effect in January 2020. Borrello says often times, criminals have been released with appearance tickets and reoffend multiple times before they even have a court appearance. Borrello says he wants Democrats in Albany to address violence committed by repeat offenders instead of passing what he calls "window-dressing" laws to combat gun violence.
Jamestown man found with Fentanyl following street check arrest...
A city man wanted on a Jamestown City Court warrant has been arrested... and, he was found in possession of a quantity of fentanyl following his arrest. City police say a patrol spotted 43 year-old Wade Pfleuger on the southside shortly before 6:30 p.m. last Saturday ... and, knew he was sought on the outstanding warrant. Pfleuger was arrested without incident... was searched and found with the Fentanyl. He was taken to the city jail pending arraignment on the warrant... and one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Juvenile arrested for trespassing second time at Falconer High School...
A 15 year-old juvenile has been arrested for allegedly trespassing twice in recent days inside the Falconer Central High School building. Ellicott Town Police were called to the Main Street location for the second time on a trespassing complaint on Oct. 9... after the youth had been removed from the school the first time. Officers arrested the juvenile for third-degree criminal trespass... and, a Family Court appearance ticket was issued.
City man sought as fugitive from Warren County, Pa. arrested in Ellicott...
A Jamestown man wanted as a fugitive from justice in Warren County, Pa. has been arrested folowing a street check in the town of Ellicott. Town Police say they performed the street check at an undisclosed location late Monday... and, took 40 year-old Aaron Albaugh into custody on the warrant. While trying to take Albaugh into custody... police say he resisted arrest. Officers were soon after able to take him into custody... and, he was taken to the Chautauqua County Jail pending centralized arraignment on fugitive and resisting arrest charges. Albaugh is due to appear in the Ellicott Town Court at a later date.
Langworthy seeking seat on third House Committee if re-elected...
Chautauqua County's Congressman currently serves on two House committees... and, he's eyeing a seat on a third in the next Congress. During the CHQ Chamber of Commerce's Congressional Luncheon in Dunkirk recently... Nick Langworthy said he is pursuing a spot on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The Western New York Republican says legislation governing energy use in New York State, including the Climate Act, has led him to go after that seat. Langworthy says he's concerned about New York's electrification mandate in a couple of years... calling it "downright dangerous." He says... while we all want a clearner environment... following the mandates out of Albany or Washington, D-C is not going to stop other countries from polluting... including China and India. He says China is buying up as much coal as it can because they are still putting several new power plants each week.
