Lake Effect Snow Warning takes effect in Chautauqua County this afternoon...
The Jamestown-area is seeing Lake Effect Snow from the latest weather system moving into Western New York today.  However... we'll be on the lower end of snowfall totals compared to places to our north and west.  That from Forecaster Jon Hitchcock with the National Weather Service in Buffalo... who says there's a Lake Effect Snow Warning in effect.  Hitchcock says we began seeing a snow-rain mix about mid-afternoon before it became all snow later in the afternoon.  He says Jamestown will see about 2 to 4 inches of the white stuff... while the shoreline areas off Lake Erie will see 1 to 2 feet of snow.  Again.. our Lake Effect Snow Warning runs through 1 p.m. Friday.


Fredonia man arrested in Forestville for child endangerment...
A Fredonia man has been arrested for allegedly endangering a child's welfare last month in Forestville.  Sheriff's deputies were investigating a case against 39 year-old James Johnson... who was taken into custody late last week on one count of endangering the welfare of a child.  Details were not released... but, Johnson was issued an appearance ticket for Hanover Town Court at a later date.


Schumer announces "signed, sealed and delivered" deal for new Micron plant to receive $6.1-bill. in CHIPS Act funding...
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer says he's been able to "lock-in" the federal government's $6.1-billion award for Micron to locate in Upstate New York.  During a Zoom Conference Tuesday... the New York Democrat says the funding -- from his bi-partisan CHIPS and Science Act -- is part of the agreement with Micron... which will be locating a $100-billion facility in Clay, NY, just outside of Syracuse.  Schumer says... with a new administration taking office next month... he wanted to ensure the money could not be clawed back, and this ensures that.  He says the project will also create up to 50,000 new "good paying" jobs at Micron.  He says the plan will help keep microchip manufacturing in the United States... and, will provide a boost to the Upstate New York region.  In fact... he says you're already seeing that happen in places like Genesee County with Edwards Vaccum... which wanted to bring it's facility -- and it's 600 jobs -- near Micron.  In fact... Schumer is hoping this will lead to the I-90 corridor becoming the nation's "superconducter" corridor.  Chautauqua County officials have said they are hoping to maybe lure a supply-chain manufacturer to the new Ripley shovel-ready site.


Low-flying aircraft in county last weekend confirmed, but, were not in distress...
A low-flying airplane that appeared to possibly be in distress last weekend in the area of northern Chautauqua Lake was not in trouble, after all.  Sheriff's officers say they received a report of a low-flying aircraft shortly before 11 a.m. last Saturday that also appeared to be having some kind of distress.  They were joined by county Emergency Services... and, several fire companies... in conducting a search of the reported area using the North Lake Fire District ARGO... as well as Sheriff's Office and Jamestown Police drones.  However... no downed aircraft was found.  Further investigation did confirm that there were low flying aircrafts in the area at the reported time which were all accounted for and not in distress.


Zilliox says Fredonia School district voters to decide on $51.7-million capital project Thursday...
The Fredonia Central School District is encouraging district residents to make their voices heard this week on its proposed capital improvement project.  A vote on the $51.7-million project is scheduled for Thursday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Fredonia High School cafeteria.  Superintendent Brad Zilliox reminds residents that the project consists of three propositions, with the second and third propositions contingent on the previous one passing.  He says Proposition-One... which will cost $22.1-million and include a 1.9% tax increase, will involved maintenance items, including roof repairs.  Zilliox says the second proposition... which totals $10-million and includes a 1.1% tax hike, will deal with meeting needs to growing music program... and, the third one... which totals $19.8-million, and includes a 6.9% tax increase, will improve safety of their student athletes. He says the district has heard mixed feedback about the project.  Zilliox believes the logic is "sound" behind each of the three propositions, adding that the project is very student-centered.


"Holiday Haul" for St. Susan's Center begins Thursday morning...
For the 12th year in a row... the Holiday Haul to benefit the St. Susan's Center in Jamestown gets underway in Brooklyn Square Thursday morning.  The three-day event also highlights the work of the area's largest soup kitchen... which accepts donations of money... and, non-perishable food items to help feed the needy.  This is the fourth Holiday Haul for St. Susan's Executive Director Cheri Rowland... who says some people give a lot... but, adds even $5 is appreciated.  Rowland says all donations are important because they are meaningful to the people who donate the money.  Rowland also expressed her appreciation to current organizer Dan Keefe... and, before him... Keith Martin... for all they do to bring in the donations... and, raise awareness of what St. Susan's does.  Keefe and his volunteers will again be set up with a tent and two trucks in front of the Jamestown Cycle Shop in Brooklyn Square.  Hours for the Holiday Hall are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday... and, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
