City woman escapes serious injury in rollover car crash in Ellery...
A Jamestown woman escaped serious injury after she lost control of her vehicle in snowy conditions on Route 430 in the town of Ellery this morning... and, the car crashed. Sheriff's officers say 21 year-old Kahley Klemens was westbound just before 6 a.m. at a speed unreasonable for conditions. Deputies say the car overturned... and, she was briefly trapped inside the vehicle. Klemens was freed by a responding deputy. She was taken to UPMC Chautauqua Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. No charges were filed.
Molitor discusses transition to becoming a state legislator in replacing the retiring Goodell...
New York State Assemblyman-elect Andrew Molitor has been going through plenty of preparation as he transitions from his role as a prosecutor in the Chautauqua County District Attorney's Office to succeeding the retiring Andy Goodell in Albany. Molitor says his preparation has included reviewing several bills that Goodell had previously submitted for consideration. He says the most important one's include the new Wetlands Regulations measure that "mirrors" the one proposed in the Senate by Sunset Bay Republican George Borrello... he adds there's also a measure to further consolidate courts... especially in more rural areas. Meanwhile, Molitor also revealed that he has received his committee assignments in the Assembly. The Westfield Republican says he will be on five Assembly committees... including the codes committee... judiciary... and, he'll be the ranking member on the social services Committee. Assemblyman Goodell has been giving Molitor plenty of advice during the transition period. He had this piece of advice regarding Molitor's assignment on the social services panel... and, that it creating a way for people to get off welfare, and become more self-sufficient... and, financially successful. Goodell is retiring after serving seven terms in the Assembly.
Indiana man arrested in Jamestown for public lewdness, urinating in the street...
An Indiana man is accused of exposing himself... and, urinating in the middle of the roadway on Jamestown's westside last weekend. City police say a patrol in the area of West Third Street and Porter Avenue spotted 39 year-old Miguel Jmenez-Morales of Columbus standing in the roadway and obstructing traffic. Officers stopped and took Jimenez-Morales into custody on charges including public lewdness and disorderly conduct. He was jailed pending arraignment.
Owner/operator of the Chautauqua Mall in Lakewood pitches plan to legislature to consolidate county officials in south county...
The owners of the Chautauqua Mall in Lakewood are proposing to use 84,000 square feet of space inside the mall for professional office space for the county. Officials with the Summit Group outlined the basics of the proposal during last week's county legislature meeting that would include Department of Motor Vehicles... and, other office space. The Summit Group's Adam Perrino outlined the proposal itself....which will include a re-make of the main entrance... with a new facade, more windows, and other changes to develop more mixed use. He says they're also looking to create some outdoor space just outside the former Sears anchor location on the southside of the mall. Perrino says the initial proposal would have the DMV near the main entrance. The male has seen a number of stores that have closed up shop in recent years... some due to the loss of business due to the pandemic. Two other locations... FYE... and, Five Guys... will close around the end of the year. Summit Group officials say they're talked with County Executive P.J. Wendel about the initial proposal. But... this was the first time for the full legislature to hear it.
Cuomo says he plans to sue a woman who accused him of sexual harassment...
Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has filed a legal notice that he intends to sue a woman who accused him of sexual harassment. The A-P reports the filing accuses former aide Charlotte Bennett of defaming Cuomo in a Dec. 9 statement that said the former governor sexually harassed her. Bennett came forward in 2021 as the second woman to accuse Cuomo of sexual harassment, alleging he subjected her to invasive questions about her personal life and sexual relationships. Cuomo denies Bennett's allegations. She later sued over the alleged misconduct in separate cases in state and federal court. Cuomo resigned in 2021 after a report from the state attorney general found he sexually harassed at least 11 women. Earlier this month, Bennett dropped her federal lawsuit against Cuomo before she was to be deposed. In a statement announcing the case was being dropped, a law firm representing Bennett said Cuomo “sexually harassed” her. Bennett reposted the statement on the social platform X. In the filing... Cuomo is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
Barn Fire in Stockton blamed on combustables near heat lamp...
Fire has extensively damaged a barn in the town of Stockton... and, killed multiple animals. Sheriff's Department dispatchers say Stockton fire crews were called to the scene at 6258 South Stockton-Cassadaga Rd. just after 11 p.m. Sunday... and, were joined by several mutual companies in battling the flames. Once the fire was out... the county's Fire Investigation Team was called in to look for the cause and origin of the blaze. They found that a heat lamp coming in contact with combustible materials triggered the flames. Officials say a horse and several rabbits perished in the fire... which had been ruled as accidental.
