Wdowaisz says 2025 will be a year of "rebuilding and restructuring" Dunkirk city government following budget approval...
It will be a "rebuilding and restructuring year" in 2025 for the city of Dunkirk following the passage of a budget that raises property taxes by 84%. That from Mayor Kate Wdowiasz... who made her first public comments on the spending plan during a recent Common Council meeting. Wdowiasz says decisions on that spending plan were not made lightly. She said that tax increase is a result of decades of mismanagement of funds... and, that there should have been smaller tax increases over the past few years to avoid this huge increase. As for 2025... Wdowiasz says the city will be looking into the possibility of consolidating services with the Village of Fredonia in order to provide some cost relief for the city's police and fire departments. However, she says that will take some time... taking at least a solid year to review and then begin to work in that direction.
