Winter Storm Watch now issued for Chautauqua County from 7 a.m. Wed to 6 p.m. Sunday...
There will be a return to Winter weather to greet county residents as the New Year begins this coming Wednesday.  The National Weather Service has already issued a Winter Storm Watch beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday through 6 p.m. next Sunday, Jan. 5.  During that time period... Forecaster Jon Hitchcock says there is a strong likelyhood of snow showers... and, gusty winds during those first five days of 2025.  Hitchcock says colder air will arrive by later in the day, and lake effect snow will begin later on New Year's Day morning.  He says some areas could see some significant lake effect snow during that time period.  However... he adds it's a bit early to predict snowfall totals.  During the overnight into Monday morning... high winds were the problem... especially along the Lake Erie Shoreline.  However... there were scattered power outages across the county... as well as trees and tree limbs being toppled over.

City lawmakers in Jamestown approve nearly two-dozen resolutions at year-end voting session...
City lawmakers in Jamestown dealt with several year-end financial matters last night that had to be taken care of by the end of the year.  Among those were just over $3.4-million worth of project and insurance costs for 2024.  City Council President Tony Dolce says all 22 resolutions were approved.  Dolce says two sparked the most debate... one was for another $400,000 to replace the roof at City Hall.  He says there had been an issue with work being done on the roof, and work had to be halted so changes could be made.  Dolce adds they may not have to use all of that $400,000, though.  He says the other resolution of note was the city allocating $500,000 to decomission and replace the Board of Public Utilities' gasoline and diesel refueling station on Steele Street.  In the long run... he says that's less costly than filling up at a local, commercial station.  Dolce says the money for each of those items will come from left-over American Rescue Plan Act State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds... and all allocations had to be finalized by the end of this year.  About $2.3-million of the $3.4-million is for increased health insurance costs... claims... and, underfunded stop-loss coverage... as well as funding increased medical and health care claims related to the city's self-insurance plan.

WJTN-AM celebrates it's 100th anniversary today...
Today is a special day for we here at WJTN.  It was 100 years ago today that station founder, Archie Newton, did his first broadcast from the Grand Opening of the Hotel Jamestown building.  The hotel recently celebrated it's centennial.  Our Dennis Webster is doing a series of vignettes about our 100th anniversary.  He says Newton was born in Jamestown in 1895... and was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army's Radio Corps in World War-One.  Newton brought that expertise back to Jamestown... and, was testing his radio operation early in 1924.  He asked for a temporary license to broadcast the hotel's Grand Opening.  However, he was granted a permanent license on Dec. 27, 1924.  A few years later... he would sell the station... then with the call letters WOCL... and AM Radio was brought to the Jamestown-area.  The bulk of the station operations were initially inside Newton's home on North Main Street... and, the 40-foot broadcast tower was located in his back-yard.  The call letters were changed to WJTN in 1936.
