County Legislature approved measure opposing industrial Wind Turbines on Lake Erie...
The Chautauqua County Legislature has gone on record as opposing any plans to put huge wind turbines in Lake Erie.  The measure was approved unanimously at last night's monthly meeting.  The vote came after two members of the public earlier spoke in favor of the resolution -- one of them is a member of Citizens Against Turbines in Lake Erie -- known as CAWTILE.  Silver Creek Republican Tom Harmon thanked the organization for leading the fight against the turbines... noting that allowing them would be a potential "disaster" for the region.  Wind turbines have been a source of controversy since they were first proposed... and, then built in parts of the north county several years ago.  Neighbors have complained about noise... and, other environmental impacts.  Jamestown Democrat Fred Larson said he supports the measure in favor of small nuclear plants.  Larson says an expert made a recent presentation to the Planning and Economic Development Committee about those.  Larson noted that the former NRG Plant along Lake Erie was also spewing pollutants into the air... and, agreed with the need to find more environmentally safe ways to generate electric power.

Lawmakers also approve moving forward with effort to restore Commercial Air Service at the Jamestown Airport...
County lawmakers Wednesday night also approved a resolution to have the county push ahead with efforts to bring back commercial air service to the Jamestown Airport.  Jamestown Democrat Fred Larson helped to craft the measure... which he says is similar to a resolution from 1990 that kicked off the effort to complete Interstate 86 as a four-lane highway from Stow to the state line near Erie, Pa... and, put a "flag in the ground" saying that we want to get commercial air service back for economic development, and support Chautauqua Institution and other attractions like the National Comedy Center.  Commercial air service left the Jamestown Airport in 2018 after the carrier at the time saw ridership drop... and consequently... a growing number of flights from the airport were cancelled.  With that... the county airport lost it's Essential Air Service designation -- and the funding for it -- from the federal government.

County officials warn about EBT Scam...
Chautauqua County officials have issued a scam alert for people who receive Supplimental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits that they should not give out your EBT Card information out over the phone.  The Sheriff's Office... along with the county's Department of Mental Hygiene and Social Services reports they have received multiple reports that people are receiving text messages stating -- quote -- "We’ve deactivated your food benefits card Call 888-421-6229 to restore its use."  This then prompts the user to enter your card number and pin number.  Once this is done, the scammer now has your card number and pin number and quickly spends the money.  This money is NOT refundable per New York State guidelines.  Officials say scammers may use a variety of calls, texts, or emails in an attempt to gain your card number and pin number.  You should never give this information out over the phone.
