Cost doubles for new guardrail proposed for Persell MS...
The cost of putting in a new guard rail near Jamestown's Persell Middle School has about doubled with the two options the city is looking at right now. That as talks are continuing between the city, and the Jamestown Public Schools. The previous guardrail was removed after the former Y-intersection at Baker Street and Hazeltine Avenue was reconfigured and rebuilt to slow traffic going on to Hazeltine. City Councilman Jeff Russell has expressed a desire to see the guard rail replaced... and, asked Acting Public Works Director Mark Roetzer and Mayor Kim Ecklund about it. Ecklund says Roetzer told the school board that about the cost has risen to $27,000 to $30,000. Russell says the previous numbers were about 12-thousand to 15-thousand dollars... and, questioned the increase. Roetzer says it's because -- they felt the sidewalk needed to be moved back away from the guard rail to provide more of a buffer. Roetzer says the city school board didn't want the sidewalk taken out... but, would like to have it moved closer to the building... and, that's where the additional costs come in.

NYS Farm Bureau issues statement on Tariffs...
The New York Farm Bureau is expressing "great concern" over the enactment of higher federal tariffs with Canada, Mexico and China. Farm Bureau President David Fischer says "our farmers are already dealing with razor-thin margins. If these tariffs persist, they may be faced with rising costs of products like potash, a key ingredient in fertilizer, as nearly all of it is imported from Canada." Fischer adds that New York is the number-two state in the nation for apple production. He says if Washington State, the number-one producer, cannot export apples, they may sell them in New York at a fraction of the normal cost, which would undercut our farmers’ profit margin even further."
