Missing Pomfret resident found Thursday afternoon by Sheriff's Dept. K-9...
An elderly vulnerable adult who walked into a wooded area of the town of Pomfret was found safe and sound after a search by a Sheriff's Department K-9. Deputies say they were called to check on the well-being of the unidentified person on Osborne Road shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday. Officers learned that the elderly resident had walked into the woods... and, was missing. Deputies brought in K-9 "Drake" who found the person in the wooded area. Officers say the person was not hurt... and, was assisted back to safety by deputies.
First-Ever Developers Forum in downtown Jamestown dubbed a success...
More than 100 business leaders... developers... and others were hand for Wednesday morning's start to the first-ever Developer's Forum in downtown Jamestown. The event at Wicked Warrens' on West Third Street was geared toward's matching up developers with unused commercial... retail or residential spaces. Mayor Kim Ecklund provided opening remarks... and, highlighted one initiative that focuses on development in the area called the Chadakoin River Basin Activation project. Ecklund say they are looking to have sustainable development, along with recreation and other activities along the river, and the Greater Jamestown Riverwalk. One of the main speakers was Empire State Development Regional Director, Karen Utz, who generally discussed their grant, loan and other programs available to developers. Utz described ESD's historic pillars... which includes supporting businesses that send product out of state... or the country. She says that becomes a priority for them at ESD, and, for those on hand Wednesday morning, "placemaking." Utz said she couldn't talk in many specifics because the new state budget has not been finalized yet. However... she adds that ESD will be in the county, and Jamestown, several times in the coming month. In particular... Utz said the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council will hold it's Aug. 21 meeting at the National Comedy Center.
Developer's Forum a joint effort by city, BPU, and Gebbie Foundation...
The Developer's Forum was put on through a joint venture involving the city... the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities... and, the Gebbie Foundation. BPU Business Development Coordinator, Ellen DiTonto, was very pleased with the turn-out in the third-floor meeting area of Wicked Warren's... and, says Wicked Warren's itself is a product of economic development... and, is a reused, department store. She says it's also housed a former art gallery, and a combined craft brewery and restaurant. It's now a craft pub and restaurant. In addition to DiTonto... Mayor Ecklund... and, ESD Regional Director Karen Utz... the audience heard from New York Homes and Community Renewal Assistant Commissioner, Leonard Skrill... Deputy Chautauqua County Executive for Economic Development Mark Geise... and, city Development Director Crystal Surdyk. Attendees later had networking opportunities... and, a chance to tour development locations in the city.
Niebel says he's retiring from the County Legislature at year's end...
A Chautauqua County lawmaker who has been serving a portion of the north county for more than a decade will not seek re-election this Fall. Sheridan Republican Terry Niebel represents Legislature District 5, which includes the towns of Sheridan, Arkwright, Villenova, Cherry Creek, and portions of the towns of Dunkirk and Hanover. Niebel says it's time to move on after 12 years. He was elected to the legislature shortly after he retired as the county's Republican Elections Commissioner. Niebel was first elected to the panel in 2013 and is currently serving his sixth term in office.
City man arrested after physical, domestic incident...
A Jamestown man in accused of injuring another person during a domestic dispute late Wednesday on the city's northside. Jamestown police were called to the unidentified location shortly before 6 p.m., and, found that 40 year-old Dennis Harmon, Jr., had gotten into the physical altercation... and, injured the victim. Harmon was arrested for third-degree assault... and, was jailed pending arraignment.
Another Jamestown man arrested for damaging property during domestic dispute...
A Jamestown man has been arrested for alllegedly damaging property belonging to the victim involved in a domestic dispute with hiim. City police were called to a southside address about 10 p.m. Tuesday... and, learned that 30 year-old Kevin Lopez had damaged the property belonging to the victim. Lopez was arrested for fourth-degree criminal mischief... and, taken to the city jail pending arraignment.
