Woman arrested in Jamestown following alleged DWI accident...
A 31 year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly leaving the scene of a drunk driving accident on Jamestown's westside late Sunday night. City police say they were called to the scene shortly before Midnight... and, found that one of the cars had flet the scene. Officers say they found Sienna Swanson a short distance away... and, she was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Swanson was arrested on two counts of first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation... and, on multiple traffic charges. She was held pending arraignment.
Falconer man arrested for taking women's phone during Sunday domestic in Jamestown...
A Falconer man is accused of grabbing a woman's phone during a domestic incident on Jamestown's southside Sunday morning to keep her from calling police. City officers were called to the scene shortly before 8 a.m. and spoke with the victim... who said 61 year-old Douglas Martin took her phone while she was trying to call police for help. Police add the victim is also the protected party in an order of protection against Martin. He was taken to the city jail pending arraignment on charges of first-degree criminal contempt... and, fourth-degree criminal mischief.
City man arrested for allegedly holding down victim during domestic dispute...
A Jamestown man has been arrested for allegedly holding another person down and not allowing them to leave a home on the city's northside early last weekend. Jamestown police were called to the unidentified location about 11:30 p.m. last Friday on a report of an unwanted person. Officers say they found the domestic incident involved 19 year-old Brock Miceli... who was arrested without incident for second-degree unlawful imprisonment. Miceli was jailed pending arraignment.
Man from Lakewood arrested for multiple spray-painting graffiti incidents...
A Lakewood man faces charges for allegedly spray painting graffiti on mulitple cars... and, buildings since late April. Lakewood-Busti Police they first responded to complaints of graffiti being painted on the cars and buildings back on Apr. 25 and 26. On Friday the 25th... officers arrested 46 year-old Jeffrey Hamilton on another matter. However... about an hour after being released, it is alleged that Hamilton returned to Village property and spray painted a LBPD police car, and other civilian vehicles. He was also accused of spray painting graffiti on the Busti Town Court Building... and, Village Highway Public Works building. Hamilton was taken to the county jail on May 1 for centralized arraignment on four counts of third-degree criminal mischief... three counts of making graffiti... third-degree criminal tampering... and possession of graffiti instruments. Police say their investigation is continuing... and, more charges are pending.
"Bad outweighs good" in new, NYS budget, say Borrello and Molitor...
The bad outweighs the good that comes from the recently approved, New York state budget signed by Governor Kathy Hochul last Friday. That from local state legislators on the $254-billion spending plan... which is $13-billion more than last year's budget. It was finally approved just over a month late after lawmakers finished voting on budget bills late Thursday. State Senator George Borrello of Sunset Bay says some of the good that came out was increasing involuntary mental health commitment times... and, boosting Kendra's Law. Borrello says strengthening both laws should be "considered wins." Kendra's Law was first designed to make sure the seriously mentally ill take their medications... which the man who pushed Kendra Webdale in front of a subway train... killing her... had not been doing. State Assemblyman Andrew Molitor has just finished up working on his first state budget... and, says spending in the new budget is out of hand. The Westfield Republican adds it's "really unconscionable." Molitor was pleased there were at least some changes to the state's discovery law... which allows prosecutors to have more time to gather and share evidence in a case. Until being elected to the legislature... he was a First Assistant District Attorney in the Chautauqua County DA's office.
Schumer blasts Trump's "skinny budget" that eliminates LIHEAP funding...
New York state appears to be facing a possible "double squeeze" as proposed federal budget cuts the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance program. U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer blasted the move... which is part of the Trump administration's budget proposal presented to the Senate late last week. Schumer says the upstate region has some of the coldest Winters in the United States... and, the funding is important to helping 1.8-million lower income households in the state. Most recently... New York has received $360-million to help those households.
Man arrested for Aggravated DWI after being stopped by JPD with juveniles in the car...
A man faces aggravated driving while intoxicated -- and other charges -- after being pulled over by Jamestown police last Friday night. City police say they were called to the area of Falconer and Stowe Streets shortly after 8 p.m. for a driver allegedly commiting multiple traffic infractions. Officers say they determined that 30 year-old Philip Harford was driving while ability impaired... and, found two juveniles under the age of 16 in the vehicle at the time. No one was hurt. Harford was jailed pending arraignment on two counts of Aggravated DWI -- one count for each child... two counts of endangering the welfare of a child... and, one of driving while ability impaired.
