City man arrested for alleged break-in at Hotel Jamestown building...
A man from Jamestown has been arrested for alegedly burglarizing the Hotel Jamestown building on West Third Street late Sunday morning.  City police were called to the scene about 11 a.m. on a report of a suspicious man wandering around the premisis.  While officers were on enroute... they say the complaintant called back saying the person had been encountered inside a secured area of the building... and, was seen rummaging through hotel resident's property.  The man... later identified as 32 year-old Mark Burch, Jr., fled the building a short time later.  Police searched the area... and, were able to track Burch to an area near the Washington Street Bridge.  Officers say they found him hiding in dense vegetation... and, he was arrested.  Police say there were warrants for Burch's arrest... and, he was found in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine and Suboxone.  In addition to the warrants... Burch is charged with second-degree burglary... third-degree criminal tampering... and, possession of burglar's tools.  He was jailed pending arraignment.


Jamestown man arrested for allegedly burglarzing a westside business...
A city man has been accused of breaking into a business on Jamestown's westside last Saturday morning.  City police were called to the unidentified location about 7:30 a.m. for a "burglary in progress."  Officers say the owner had caught 43 year-old Joseph Helms in the act after breaking into the garage of the business.  Police say the owner pointed out Helms as he was trying to flee the scene.  The owner says he allegedly stole more than $3,000 worth of items from the business.  Helms was jailed pending arraignment on charges of third-degree burglary... third-degree grand larceny... and, possession of burglar's tools. 


Salamanca man arrested for third-degree rape in Silver Creek...         
A Cattaraugus County man has been arrested for allegedly having sexual relations with a juvenile victim in the village of Silver Creek.  Sheriff's officers say they arrrested 22 year-old Keion Tyger of Salamanca in connection with an investigation into an incident last January.  Deputies say Tyger was arrested for third-degree rape... and, endangering the welfare of a child.  He was issued appearance tickets for Hanover Town Court.  


Large audience on hand for fourth-annual "Retool WNY" Conference in Celoron...
More than 100 local and regional manufacturers and business leaders are in Celoron today to learn more about opportunities in energy innovation and sustainability.  The fourth-annual "Retool Western New York" program got underway this morning at the Chautauqua Harbor Hotel.  The event is being presented by the Jamestown Board of Public utilities, and others through a grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.  Jamestown Mayor Kim Ecklund was among those making opening remarks... and, talked about the successes of the three previous "Retool" conferences... including funding equipment upgrades for local companies... and, partnering with Jamestown Community College to launch a building automation systems program to improve their connectivity.  That was underscored by the first Keynote Address by retired Environmental Partnership Manager for Subaru of America, Denise Coogan.  Coogan... who now works in a similary capacity with the National Parks Service... says there are a number of steps involved in getting to "zero emission..." or "zero landfill" status.  One is upper management buy in.  Then... it's up to them to go to the workers to see what efficiencies they can help create because those workers are on the front line... and, understand what their job entails.  Coogan says the program worked so well that they reached "Zero landfill status" in May of 2004... and, had saved $1-million in costs during the process. 


Westfield woman arrested in Dewittville for DWI, Leandra's Law violation...
A woman from Westfield faces a Leandra's Law violation after allegedly driving drunk with two minor children inside her car when it crashed on Route 430 in Dewittville.  Sheriff's officers say they were called to the scene in the town of Chautauqua shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday.  Their investigation showed that 30 year-old Chanine Yordy was driving while intoxicated at the time... and, had two children under the age of 16 inside the car.  Yordy was arrested for Aggravated DWI-driving with a child in the vehicle... Aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol content of .18% or higher... DWI... and, moving from lane unsafely.  She was issued appearance tickets for Chautauqua Town Court at a later date.


Street check leads to arrest of woman in Jamestown...
A Jamestown woman has been arrested for allegedly being in the presence of a person she was ordered by a court to stay away from during a weekend street check.  City police say a patrol on Jamestown's westside spotted 24 year-old Samantha Lugo walking in the area... and, knew there was an outstanding warrant for her arrest.  Officers say when they tried to make contact with Lugo she fled on foot.  After a brief foot chase... they say Lugo was taken into custody and was jailed on the warrant... and, new charges of second-degree criminal contempt and resisting arrest. 


Fire damages locomotive late last week in Dunkirk...
A locomotive fire kept Dunkirk city firefighters busy late Friday morning.  City Fire Chief Nick Barter says crews were called to the CSX tracks near the intersection of East 3rd Street and Park Avenue shortly after 10:45 a.m.  On arrival... crews found smoke and fire coming from underneath the second locomotive pulling a train carrying vehicles.  Once the locomotive was shut down, they used extinguishers and a hose to put out the fire in the area of an electric motor.  No one was hurt.
