Ecklund further discusses recent increase in parks and other public space vandalism...
A new term -- "urban mining" -- has come into play as a possible reason for some of the uptick in vandalism at parks and other public facilities in the city of Jamestown. That from Mayor Kim Ecklund... who adds that mischievious youth also cannot be ruled out in many cases. Ecklund's Office issued a press release a week ago today about a significant rise in vandalism now that nicer weather has arrived. "Urban mining" is where someone is looking for valuable metal or other materials... such as can be found on hand dryers in public restrooms and elsewhere. Ecklund says the city is working in a number of areas to try and thwart those involved... including getting the public involved if they see something to report it to police. She adds that the city is also working to get more surveillance cameras into those areas. Ecklund adds that if you see something... say something and call JPD at 483-7536.
