Schumer hoping for a "reasonable compromise" during Trump-Putin summit in Alaska...
New York's Senior U.S. Senator says he's hopeful that a "reasonable" compromise can be reached on Ukraine when President Trump meets this Friday with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The high-stakes "listening exercise" as the White House has called it... will take place in Anchorage, Alaska this Friday... and, will be the first time Putin has visited a Western nation since Russian forces invaded Ukraine in February of 2022. Democratic Senator Charles Schumer says he's hopeful that Ukraine doesn't get "sold out..." and, he says he and several other lawmakers have been supportive of Ukraine since then. Schumer says he hopes the president will send a "strong message" to Putin that there needs to be a ceasefire and some kind of agreement that ends the war. Russia has countered Western attempts to isolate it by bolstering its ties with ex-Soviet allies and other developing countries. Putin’s travel also has been limited by an International Criminal Court arrest warrant issued in 2023 that has prompted him to avoid visits to places that recognize the court’s authority. The U.S. isn’t a member of the court and thus doesn’t have an obligation to arrest him.

Possible consolidation of departments may be part of proposed, Dunkirk city budget...
The city of Dunkirk will consider consolidating some departments in next year's spending plan. Mayor Kate Wdowiasz says one of the ideas being looked at is the consolidation of the Treasurer's, Clerk's and Fiscal Affairs Offices into a centralized business office that would be led by a comptroller... who would be appointed to the position through Civil Service. Wdowiasz the position would help provide more "checks and balances" in city government. She says this is being considered... as the city aims to abolish the elected treasurer's position... which city voters will decide on in November.
