Child sent to Buffalo-area hospital after bike is struck by a car in Stockton...
A child is being treated at a Buffalo area hospital after their bicycle was struck by a car on Frisbee Road in the town of Stockton Thursday afternoon.  Sheriff's officers were called to the scene about 2:15 p.m., and, were joined by State Police, local and county EMS and others.  The child suffered serious injuries... and, was taken to Oishei Children's Hospital in Buffalo for further treatment.  No names have been released.  We'll have more when it's available.


Motorcyclist being treated after crash north of Jamestown after not complying with police...
A motorcyclist had to be treated for injuries after his two-wheeler crashed on Route 60... north of Jamestown... Wednesday afternoon.  Sheriff's Department emergency dispatchers say the operator... who's not been identified... failed to comply with city police and pull over about 5:15 PM on North Main Street.  However... he lost control of the bike, and crashed near Kiantone Road.  Dispatchers say the operator was treated at the scene... and, taken to UPMC Chautauqua Hospital for further treatment.  No other information is available.


City man accused of drug trafficking in Olean convicted in federal court...
A man from Jamestown has been convicted in federal court on multiple drug and weapons possession charges stemming from raids in Olean just over two years ago.  U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo has announced the jury in Buffalo Wednesday convicted 31 year-old Trenton Grant on charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine... possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes... and, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.  Prosecutors say in May of 2023... Olean police began an investigation into Grant’s drug trafficking activities.  In late July of 2023... they executed search warrants on Grant's car... and, person and recovered about 71-grams of methamphetamine, five grams of cocaine, and about four grams of fentanyl.  Officers also recovered a loaded firearm and ammunition from the trunk of Grant’s vehicle.  The firearm was later identified as having been stolen.  At the time of his arrest, Grant was on parole for a prior felony conviction in February 2016 of Assault -- Intent to Cause Serious Injury with Weapon.  And... he is legally prohibited from possessing a firearm.  Grant will be sentenced next February... and, faces a mandatory minimum 20 years in prison and a maximum of life.


Wendel and SUNY Fredonia Pres. tout possibilities of new forensic crime lab on the campus...
Chautauqua County and the SUNY College at Fredonia have launched a feasibiilty study to look into establishing a forensic crime lab on the Fredonia campus.  County Executive P.J. Wendel and college officials call it a "groundbreaking collaboration that will merge public safety innovation with higher education advancement."  Wendel says the idea was first brought up by retired Jamestown Police Chief Harry Snellings... who is now an investigator for the District Attorney's Office.  He says Snellings touted the idea of having a local lab that could help save money, and time on criminal prosecutions.  Wendel says SUNY Fredonia has expressed a definate interest in pursuing the possbility.  The county recently issued a Request for Proposals to conduct a feasibility study on creating the forensic crime lab... which would focus on DNA analysis and digital forensics.  If realized, the facility would be the first of its kind in the county... and, serve as a "critical regional resource" for law enforcement.  Fredonia President Stephen Kolison they want to see what new opportunities this may provide for students.

County District Attorney Jason Schmidt says -- "there was a time our police could rely on outside forensic labs without delays -- but as evidence submissions have surged statewide, those labs now limit what we can send and prioritize their own local cases.  These delays challenge our investigations."


Depew man arrested following domestic incident, and DWI in town of Ellicott...
A Buffalo-area man has been arrested for drunk driving... and, being involved in a domestic dispute in the town of Ellicott last Sunday morning.  Ellicott Town Police say they were called to the area of Fluvanna Townline... and Moon Roads... just before 2:30 a.m. for a "well-being" check.  Officers say they saw 36 year-old Andrew Burns of Depew... engaged in the domestic with the victim.  Police spoke with the victim... who had bruising on one arm after Burns allegedly grabbed them and pushed them to the ground.  Burns was also allegedly found to be driving drunk... and, he was arrested for third-degree assault... second-degree reckless endangerment... DWI -- with three previous convictions -- and, aggravated unlicensed operation.  He was taken to the county jail pending centralized arraignment.  He's to appear in Ellicott Town Court at a later date.


Man from Lakewood arrested for allegedly trying to pay for property with phoney check...
A Lakewood man has been arrested for allegedly trying to pay someone for property using a check with insufficient funds.  Lakewood-Busti Police say they arrested 28 year-old Braxton Achterberg last Saturday on warrants out of Busti Town Court. Acterberg is accused of obtaining a fraudulent check and used it for the payment.  He is charged with fourth-degree grand larceny... criminal possession of a forged instrument... and, issuing a bad check.  Achterberg was taken the county jail pending centralized arraignment.
