Wanted city woman arrested for allegedly running from, then hitting police...
A woman from Jamestown has been arrested after allegedly trying to run from police... and, later hitting an officer with a phone at the city jail.  Police were on patrol in the area of Winsor and Harrison Streets just after 6 a.m. Thursday when they spotted 24 year-old Samantha Lugo... who was known to have an active City Court warrant for her arrest.  Officers say... when they approached Lugo... she began running, and led them on a brief foot chase.  Once she was apprehended... Lugo is accused of beginning to strike officers before being taken into custody after a brief struggle.  She was also found to have been walking with the male victim who had the stay-away order against her.  Once in the city jail... Lugo then struck an officer with the phone causing injury.  She was charged with resisting arrest... first-degree criminal contempt - due to a previous conviction -- and second-degree assault.  She was jailed pending arraignment.


Three arrested in Dunkirk during pair of drug raids...
Three people from Dunkirk have been arrested after two drug raids over the past two days in the north county city.  Sheriff's officers say their narcotics investigators... along with those from Dunkirk and Jamestown... first executed a search warrant at 500 Deer St. this past Wednesday.  Inside... they found 44 year-old Luis Sanchez and 33 year-old Octivia Brown... along with 28.7 grams of cocaine, scales and packaging material used for the sale and distribution of narcotics... and, $415 in cash.  Both Sanchez and Brown were charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance... and, second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia.

Then yesterday... narcotics investigators from those three departments raided the home at 317 Lake Shore Dr. East... and, Dunkirk's SRT unit made entry both times.  At the scene... they found 32 year-old Johnny Torres.  Police say their search led to seizure of 37.6 grams of crack cocaine, scales and packaging material used for the sale and distribution of narcotics and $1,014 in cash.  Torres was also charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance... and, second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia.  All three suspects were held pending arraignment in Dunkirk City Court. Wendel says closing of Absolut of Westfield concerning, but, believes county nursing homes have capacity to deal with new residents...
Chautauqua County's top-elected official is expressing concern over the pending loss of another nursing home in the county... but, adds that other local facilities should have enough capacity for those residents.  That from County Executive P.J. Wendel on the recent announcement by Absolut of Westfield's ownership group that it will be shutting it's doors after failing to come to a new lease agreement with it's landlord.  He says they are assisting where they can to help the residents and their families make a "smooth transition" to different facilities.  Wendel says the problem is people were blindsided by the fact the McGuire Group did file a notice with the state Department of Health... but, it wasn't until Absolut confirmed the closing that it was made public.  Medicaid reimbursements have long been an issue for local nursing homes... and, Wendel says that's why an estimated 5,000 people in the county receiving it... should not be.  The other nursing home that's closed in recent times was Lutheran in Jamestown.  Wendel made his comments for this weekend's "Community Spotlight" program on the six Media One Radio Group stations.


Gillibrand pushing for bi-partisan effort to keep ACA Tax Credits in place...
New York residents who get their health insurance through the Affordable Care Act could face a more than $1,360 yearly increase in their premiums if their earned tax credits expire.  That from U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand... who says those subsidies... which help 20-million Americans afford their insurance... are set to run out at the end of the year.  The New York Democrat adds that 1.6-million of those low to moderate-incomes earners live in the state... including "Benjamin" from New York City... who is looking at another $1,800 a month increase unless the credits are kept in place.  She says that's on top of other price increases in NYC.  With that... Gillibrand is called in her colleagues -- on both sides of the aisle -- to include the tax credits in the the next Continuing Resolution... which needs to be acted on by Sept. 30. 


City man arrested for harassment following domestic dispute...
A man from Jamestown has been arrested for allegedly threatening a person who has an order of protection against him during a domestic incident this past Tuesday night.  City police say they were called to an eastside home shortly after 7 PM... and, learned that 36 year-old Christopher Calhoun had come to the victim's home... and, threatened them.  Officers were then called again shortly before 9 PM after he had returned... and, Calhoun was arrested at that time for second-degree harassment... and, first-degree criminal contempt.  He was jailed pending arraignment.


Cassadaga Lakes Assoc. announces event...
A last moment PSA... the Cassadaga Lakes Association will hold it's Full Moon Paddle on Saturday, Sept. 6.  Particpants will meet at the beach on Park Ave. at 6:30 p.m. and depart at 7 p.m.  Life jackets and lights are required.
