Molitor questions DEC on use of AI, and changes to oversight in Freshwater Wetlands lawsuit...
A state lawmaker from Chautauqua County has put in a question to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation over how the agency generated its new wetland maps.  However... he adds a bigger concern he has is over the amendments to the state's Environmental Conservation Law that were made in 2022 in order to expand oversight of existing freshwater lands.  Assemblyman Andrew Molitor questions how the DEC is interpreting the law.  Molitor says the way those laws are interpreted is the biggers concern of the two.  He adds he's also concerned about the possibility that the DEC used artificial intelligence to create the new maps.  The Westfield Republican says he and several of his GOP colleagues in the State Legislature have filed amicus briefs supporting a lawsuit challenging the new maps in State Supreme Court in Albany.  Molitor adds the legislators who have filed the briefs have also expressed concern that the DEC is placing unnecessary restrictions on homeowners, local governments, and job-creating businesses while undermining legislative authority.  They add that local municipalities, property owners, and statewide business organizations have joined in challenging the regulations.  Locally, the new maps have raised concerns from property owners along Chautauqua Lake.

Annual Busti Apple Festival draws thousands over two days, official calls it a "wonderful" weekend...
It was a "wonderful" weekend for the 51st Busti Apple Festival in Busti... with sunshine and plenty of vendors and activities through-out the festival grounds.  That from the Busti Historical Society's Joni Blackman... who again headed up the festival this year.  Blackman says there were some changes made to demonstrations and what was offered this year... and, they were all well-received.  Those included new activities for children... including a cow that kids could take turns at trying to milk, and others.  Blackman says they spaced out the times the gristmill was run so they could get more people to each one.  She says everyone from young children to older children and adults were all having fun.  Blackman says they wound up with between 120 to 125 vendors this year.  She also had people tell her they would like a little more in the way of food variety... and, they looked to have a couple of barbecuers take part... but, there wasn't enough room.  She says they were hoping to attract the same number of people as they did last year -- about 7,000.  However... final numbers were not yet available.
