County under Lake Effect Snow Warning until early Tuesday afternoon... and, looking at more snow through Tuesday night...
The first snow of the season arrived in Chautauqua County last evening, and there's plenty more on the way for the next couple of days.  The National Weather Service in Buffalo has upgraded the winter weather advisory in the county to a lake effect snow warning, which runs until 1 p.m. Tuesday.  Meteorologist Phillip Pandolfo says the upgrade is due to additional lake enhancement expected from Lake Erie and the Chautauqua Ridge... and, he says that'll be enhanced by a north to north-west wind.  Pandolfo says some drier air will create a lull in the snowfall during the afternoon hours today... but, that snow will intensify during the evening and into Tuesday morning.  He says that's when they'll be looking for some enhancement from Lake Huron that may produce more snow for the region.  Some 8-11 inches of accumulation is expected in the most persistent lake snows along the Chautauqua Ridge... with other areas expected to get 4-8 inches.  Pandolfo says locations along the Lake Erie shoreline should pick up a total of 2-4 inches of the white stuff.

Stefanik announces run for Gov., and gets support from local lawmakers...
No sooner did New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik announce she's running for governor... she received the backing of a number of fellow Republicans.  Among those was local Congressman Nick Langworthy.  The 23rd District representative said "New York deserves a fighter who never backs down -- and, that’s Elise Stefanik.  She’s tough, fearless, and exactly the kind of leader we need to rescue our state from the corruption, crime, and crushing cost of living created by Kathy Hochul and one-party Democrat rule."  Langworthy added that Stefanik has "spent her career standing up for hardworking families, defending law enforcement, and putting New York on the national map for the right reasons -- strength, integrity, and common sense."  Meanwhile... he said Kathy Hochul has failed New Yorkers at every turn.  Also among the Republicans throwing their support to Stefanik was retired New York Govenror George Pataki.  Over the weekend... County Executives -- including Chautauqua County's P.J. Wendel -- declared their support for Stefanik.

However... the GOP primary field remains unclear ahead of the 2026 race.  Hudson Valley Congressman Mike Lawler had been contemplating a run and was considered a potentially strong candidate, but said earlier this year that he would instead seek re-election in his battleground House district.  Hochul herself is facing a contested primary, with her own lieutenant governor, Antonio Delgado, running against her.
