Molitor joined with other state lawmakers calling on Hochul to veto assisted suicide bill...
Legislation that would legalize physician-assisted suicide in New York is still awaiting Governor Kathy Hochul's signature after it cleared both both chambers of the State Legislature earlier this year.  Assemblyman Andrew Molitor and 20 of his colleagues recently sent a letter to Hochul urging her to veto the Medical Aid in Dying Act.  Molitor has a number of concerns about the bill... one being that it has no safeguards to protect people who are considering assisted suicide.  He says it requires two people -- outside the person's family -- to sign affidavits, but, doesn't require them to be notarized.  Molitor says another concern is that patients could wind up irreversibly ending their lives based on flawed predictions.  He says that includes someone told they would only live six more months... but, end up living a year... two-years or more and still have fullfilling lives.  Molitor says he also believes that enabling suicide will disproportionately affect communities that lack hospice and palliative care.  Currently... the Westfield Republican says that doctor-assisted suicide is legal in 11 states, and the District of Columbia.
