Molitor opposes newly amended, "Medical Aid in Dying" bill to be considered in early 2026...
New York will become the 13th state in the nation to legalize assisted suicide... but, the county's State Assemblyman opposes the amended legislation.  Governor Kathy Hochul announced last week that she's reached an agreement with the state legislature to make "medical aid in dying" available to terminally ill New Yorkers who have less than six months to live.  Hochul says her decision came after careful reflection and deliberation with the bill's sponsors, advocacy organizations, and others.  However... Local Assemblyman Andrew Molitor says Hochul's reasoning behind signing the amended bill "is deeply flawed" and doesn't understand "the actual purpose of government... which is to protect it's citizens."  Hochul explained her reasons for supporting the bill in an op-ed published by the Albany Times-Union.  She says the agreement will add a number of additional guardrails to the original legislation.  However... Molitor doesn't believe the changes will go far enough in addressing what he says are the major issues with the bill.  Those include not being able to predict the future, and that a diagnosis may be wrong.
