Westfield man arrested after alleged shooting, car chase with police...
A man from Westfield is accused of shooting a woman during an altercation at a home in the village... and, leading police on a vehicle and foot pursuit into the town of Pomfret. Fredonia Police say the shooting occurred shortly before 7:30 last Saturday night... with the suspect then fleeing the scene. Westfield Police say the suspect... identified as 52 year-old Jahmaul Johnson... shot and wounded the woman during an altercation at the home. Police say the pursuit went through the village of Fredonia, and about 20 minutes after the shooting, the vehicle crashed on Van Buren Road just outside the village. Johnson then ran off on foot, and officers from multiple agencies began searching for him. He was later found and taken into custody by Chautauqua County Sheriff's officers. Westfield police say the shooting victim is in stable condition. A "shelter in place" advisory was issued for residents in the area of Van Buren... Chestnut... and, Farel Roads... and, Johnson Street while police searched for the suspect. He was found about 9:15 p.m.
High speed pursuit in Jamestown leads to arrest of city man...
A city man faces several charges following a high-speed pursuit that began in downtown Jamestown... and, ended on the city's southside. Jamestown police say a patrol saw a vehicle leaving a business at a high-rate of speed after officers had been called for a disorderly person just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Police caught up to the vehicle and tried to make a traffic stop. However... the operator... later found to be 35 year-old Tyler Anderson... didn't comply, and led officers on the pursuit. During the chase... police say Anderson failed to stop at a posted stop sign... and, nearly struck another vehicle while speeding. The car ultimately came to a stop on the southside... and, officers took him into custody without further incident. Anderson was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment... driving while intoxicated... and, fleeing a police officer in the a motor vehicle. At the city jail... they say Anderson intentionally flooded his cell by tampering with the plumbing. He was additionally charged with third-degree criminal tampering... and, held pending arraignment.
Man arrested for spraying graffitti on Lakewood village, and Busti town properities arrested again...
A man from Lakewood accused of spray painting graffitti on village and town of Busti property last year... was arrested again after trying to flee his home late last week. Lakewood-Busti Police say they executed an arrest warrant at the home of 47 year-old Jeffrey Hamilton this past Thursday night. Police say he was found quickly... and, taken into custody on charges of Felony third-degree criminal mischief... and, making graffiti. He was arraigned in Busti Town Court, and released pending a future court appearance. Hamilton was intially arrested last May on multiple charges of making graffiti and criminal tampering after police investigated a complaint of multiple cars being spray painted for two days in late April. He had been arrested prior to that on a different matter... and, soon after being released... he spray painted a Lakewood-Busti police car... and, several other vehicles. He also allegedly spray painted other village and town property.
Borrello says Senate and Assembly to begin work on their "one-house budget" bills this week, but, still expects a late spending plan...
Negotiations towards a final budget for New York State's upcoming fiscal year begin this week... when the Senate and Assembly present their "one-house" budgets. This following recent hearings in Albany over Governor Kathy Hochul's proposed $260 billion spending plan. Local state senator George Borrello has long been critical of past state budgets containing controversial policy items... such as Wetland regulations, and Bail Reform. He says they're often "hidden" in the spending plan... and, adds it "has to end." Borrello says he believes one of the major sticking points in negotiations will be over provisions of the controversial Climate Act. The Sunset Bay Republican says his Democratic colleagues are "digging their heels in" on that policy, despite pushback from Hochul. Borrello says he's heard that some 27 Democratic Senators have wrote Hochul urging her not to make any changes to the policy. A final budget is due on Apr. 1... but, Borrello says he's skeptical that this year's spending plan will be on time.
Another associate of drug kingpin Joseph Zaso indicted on federal drug charges...
A man and woman from Jamestown have been indicted on federal drug charges tied to a conspiracy involving local drug "kingpin" Joseph Zaso. U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo has announced that a grand jury has returned the indictment charging 39 year-old James Jackson... and, 37 year-old Alicia Osar... with narcotics conspiracy, which carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison. In addition, Jackson is charged with maintaining a drug-involved premises. Prosecutors say that... between 2018... and, February of last year... Jackson and Osar conspired with Zaso... Ernest Brown... and others to sell fentanyl. In addition... between 2019, and 2021, Jackson is accused of using a Bush Street home in Jamestown to make and sell heroin, crack cocaine, cocaine and methamphetamine. Jackson is being detained... while Osar is released on conditions. Both Brown and Zaso were previously convicted and are awaiting sentencing.
