We have seen on-line "chatter" that the truck has been brought out of the lake. However... that has NOT been confirmed. We have calls into Chautauqua County Sheriff Jim Quattrone, but, have not heard back Earlier today, Quattrone said his department's Dive Team had been joined by others from Erie and Niagara Counties... and, New York State Police at the scene. Divers went back into the water near Bemus Point this morning to attach floation devices to bring the truck to the surface. Borrello calls State Senate "One-House" Budget a "Train Wreck..."
The process to craft a final, 2026-27 state budget is continuing now that both the State Senate and Assembly have presented their "one-house" spending plans. Both budgets call for additional spending compared to Governor Kathy Hochul's, more than $260-billion proposal. The Senate's one-house budget amounts to just under $270-billion... and, is about $7.1-billion more than Hochul's budget. State Senator George Borrello calls it a "fiscal train wreck" with residents suffered under higher utility bills... and, "nothing was offered in relief." Borrello says the Senate Democrats' "wish list" includes $5.6 billion in higher taxes. He says it also contains no changes to the Climate Act... and, a rejection of Hochul's proposal to crack down on car insurance fraud and lawsuit abuse. The Sunset Bay Republican believes what's positive in the budget is "far outshadowed" by the negative in terms of "waste, fraud and abuse." He adds there are also too many gimmicks in the budget that really aren't enough to provide relief. A final state budget is due by Apr. 1.

County Clerk Greg Carlson says they -- and other local DMVs are actively communicatin the issue to the state since the DRIVES rollout last month... but, they are still occuring. Carlson says the county's three DMV offices will continue to process debit and credit card transactions, but encourages customers to use cash or check when completing in-person transactions until the state resolves the issue.
