Man from Mayville arrested for assault and unlawful imprisonment...
A Mayville man is accused of threatening and assaulting another person... and, holding them against their will early last weekend.  Sheriff's deputies say they were called to a village address shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday for a recent "physical altercation."  Officers say their investigation found that 41 year-old Kevn Appelbe intentionally hurt the victim... threatened their life... and, held them against their will during the incident.  Deputies found Appelbe... and, he was arrested for third-degree assault... third-degree menacing... and, second-degree unlawful imprisonment.  He was jailed pending centralized arraignment... and, will appear in Chautauqua Town Court at a later date.


City teen arrested for allegedly choking, and unlawfully holding victim against their will...
A Jamestown teenager has been arrested for allegedly pinning another person to the ground... and, hitting and choking them.  City police say they were called to a southside location just after 7 PM last Friday for a domestic incident.  Officer say they found that 18 year-old Angel Rosa had pinned the victim to the ground... grabbed their neck... and, repeatedly struck them.  Police arrested Rosa was for second-degree unlawful imprisonment... and, criminal obstruction of breathing -- or blood circulation.  He was held pending arraignment.


Emerson's pick-up truck pulled from lake waters; but he is still missing...           
The truck belonging to a Lakewood man reported missing early this month has been recovered from Chautauqua Lake.  However... the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department reports that 64 year-old Daniel "Scott" Emerson was not found inside... and, he remain missing.  Officers say the truck was towed by boat to Long Point State Park... where it was removed from the lake.  The Sheriff's Office Water Emergency Team was assisted by Lakewood-Busti Police... State Park Police... the State Police, Erie County, and Niagara County Dive Teams... and, County Emergency Services.  Deputies say the recovery took several days and was impeded by difficult weather conditions... and, poor underwater visibility.  Several ivers spent significant time in murky, frigid water in order to conduct this recovery.  Anyone living on Chautauqua Lake and may have camera footage of this truck driving on the lake on March 3rd, is encouraged to contact the Lakewood-Busti Police or the Sheriff's Department's Criminal Investigation Division.  A likely time of that footage would be between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Mar. 3.  The search for Emerson is on-going.


Leader of Lake and Watershed Mgmt Alliance highlights three recommendations for lake in 2026...
The head of the Chautauqua Lake and Watershed Management Alliance is making three recommendations to members, and other lake groups for the coming season.  A.J. Reyes is a Certified Lake Manager for GEI Consultants... and, has been hired to develop strategies for dealing with lake issues.  One recommendation is how to more quickly deal with the excessive Elodea growth in the south basin last Spring.  Reyes is proposing the Chautauqua Lake Association focus on "cutting lanes" with their weed harvesters... and, he says they need to decide on whether to create them yearly, and where they need to be.  Reyes was the final speaker during the third-annual Chautauqua Lake Symposium held at the Chautauqua Harbor Hotel in Celoron.  He says another recommendation is pulling together a Technical Advisory Group to work on strategies against a new invasive weed -- the Starry Stonewort.  He says the TAG would have a group of experts familiar with the Starry Stonewort, and how to deal with it.  Reyes also recommended a consolidated effort to look at... and, review what has worked in stemming weeds and improving water quality in the lake.  He says that would run the gamit from weed harvesting... to herbicide use.  County Executive P.J. Wendel... who hosted the symposium... was pleased with how it went, and the participation in the program.  


North County man arrested for speeding and driving under influence of drugs...
A man from Fredonia has been arrested for driving while under the influence of drugs after being stopped for speeding in the north county.  Sheriff's officers say a patrol stopped the speeding vehicle in Fredonia shortly before 1 a.m. last Friday... and, found the operator -- Frank Rivera-Montero -- was driving while impaired by drugs.  He was arrested for speeding... DWAI-Drugs... and, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.  Rivera-Montero was arraigned and issued appearance tickets for Fredonia Village Court.


Jamestown man arreste for threatening phone call to person with "stay-away" order of protection against him...
A city man has been arrested for allegedly making a threatening phone call to a person who had an order of protection against him.  Jamestown police say they were called to a southside address shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday for a complaint from earlier in the day.  Officers investigated... and, determined that 35 year-old Demetrius Goldsmith had called and threatened the victim.  Police found Goldsmith a short time later at a separate address... and, he was arrested for first-degree criminal contempt... and, second-degree aggravated harassment.  He was jailed pending arraignment.
