Wendel says discussions are underway to find a location for homeless-transitional housing...
Discussions are underway in an effort to develop a facility that Chautauqua County can use to house the homeless as part of a transitional housing program.  That from County Executive P-J Wendel... who updated the situation this week as a way to move away from depending on local hotels and motels to provide that shelter.  Wendel says he and others are talking about a possible site on Scott Street in Falconer that would have 84-units.  However... Wendel says talks remain preliminary at this point.  He says he understands local motel's business models for when they have several rooms available... and, New York state is willing to pay 100-plus dollars a night to house the homeless.  However... he says those hotel operators need to keep their facilities clean and up to code.  Wendel says if it's the county's facility... they're in charge and have control over what happens.  He especially credited county director of Social Services and Mental Hygiene, Carmello Hernandez, for his work in trying to find a location the county could own... and operate that would be less expensive than what the state is doing now.
