North county man seriously hurt after e-scooter is struck by car in Falconer...
A Dunkirk man riding an electric scooter in Falconer is being treated for serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle Sunday morning in the village's four-corners.  Ellicott Town Police were called to the scene at the intersection of East Main and North Work Streets about 10 a.m., and learned the scooter... operated by Michael Cox... was westbound on East Main... and, failed to yield at a red light.  The scooter was then struck by the southbound vehilcle, driven by Susan Williamson of Jamestown.  Cox was taken by Falconer rescue to the school where he was flown by medivac helicopter to UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa.  Police say the investigation is continuing.

 

Pair arrested on drug and other charges following traffic stop in Jamestown...
Two people have been arrested following a traffic stop late last week on the city of Jamestown's southside.  City police say their Violent Crime and K-9 Units stopped the car... driven by 19 year-old Damion Dalton of Jamestown... shortly before 1:30 a.m. last Friday at Newland Ave. and Colfax St. for alleged violations.  They found that Dalton was wanted on confirmed City Court warrants... and, that he was driving with a suspended license.  During the investigation... officers searched the vehicle and found a quantity of methamphetamine... Psilocybin Mushrooms and a digital scale.  Police found the drugs belonged to the passenger... 43 year-old Andrea Whitford-Rogers of Sarasota, Florida.  She was charged with Felony fourth-degree criminal possession of a Controlled Substance... and, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance... and, criminally using drug paraphernalia.  Dalton was charged with second-degree aggravated Unlicensed Operation.  Both were taken to the city jail pending arraignment.


City woman arrested on drug charges following traffic stop...
A 32 year-old woman has been arrested following a traffic stop in Jamestown in which police found her in possession of a quantity of fentanyl.  City police say members of the Violent Crime and K-9 Units conducted the stop in the area of Crescent St. about 1:40 a.m. last Thursday.  Officers say Taylor O'Neil was the driver... and they spotted drug paraphernalia in plain view.  Police then searched the vehicle... and found the fentanyl in property belonging to O'Neil.  She was taken into custody without incident... while two male passengers were released on scene.  O'Neil was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance... and, also issued traffic citations.  She was taken to the city jail where she was booked... and, release with an appearance ticket for city court.


Celoron man recently arrested locally for drug trafficking now facing federal charges...
The Celoron man arrested last week by Chautauqua County Sheriff's officers has now been formally arrested by federal authorities for drug trafficking.  U.S Attorney Trini Ross says 30 year-old Darin Butts was taken into custody on one count of possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.  Prosecutors say investigators conducted surveillance on an East Duquesne St. home... and, they saw Butts leaving the residence recently.  They saw him remove a black and white shopping bag from his vehicle and place it into his girlfriend's car.  The woman later gave police permission to search the vehicle... and they found the bag, which contained a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine.  It was packaged in smaller, individual-sized quantities, along with a scale, packaging materials, and cash.  A backpack containing a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine was also recovered.  All together... police seized about 856 grams of meth... and, Butts was taken into custody.  He faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years, a maximum of life and a $10-million fine.


Fletcher Elementary School teacher gives students and parents tips for preparing for new school year...
School begins in a little more than a week, and Amanda Sischo, principal of Fletcher Elementary School in Jamestown has some reminders for parents and families.  She says now is the best time to start getting children back "into the routine" of getting up and going to school.  Sischo says this is an ideal time to think about another routine that can make for an easier start to the school day... and, that involves laying out their child's backpacks and supplies, along with their clothes.  Otherwise, Sischo makes one other request of parents and caregivers... for now and throughout the school year... and, that's read with your child.  More on what’s been happening this summer at Fletcher Elementary later this week on WJTN newscasts.


Goodskills Provider Fair to be held in Jamestown Tuesday...
People looking for better jobs could find a ‘helping hand’ tomorrow at the Crystal Ball Room in the Hotel Jamestown Building.  ‘Goodskills’ is presenting a Community Outreach Provider Fair.  Community Outreach Liason Bryan Boleratz with Goodskills, says around 25 organizations will be there to provide information on jobs they have open.  While some potential employers will be there... Boleratz says the fair will also connect job seekers with other resources as well... such as help with finances, housing, daycare and job opportunities.  The fair runs from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Crystal Ballroom.  Goodskills has an office at Jamestown Community College and offers periodic, free training focused on the skills needed in high-tech manufacturing.  Goodskills is a part of Goodwill of Western New York and receives funds from a Build Back Better Regional Challenge Award.
