City woman arrested near McCrea Point for drug possession and driving while under the influence...     
A Jamestown woman faces multiple drug-related charges after she was allegedly found slumped behind the wheel of her car near McCrea Point Park.  City police say they responded to a "suspicious situation" at 20 Jones-&-Gifford Avenue about 7 a.m. Sunday... and, spoke with the driver, 54 year-old Lisa Calkins, and then conducted field sobriety tests.  Officers say Calkins was found to be driving while under the influence of drugs.  Police say, they allegedly found her in possession of 17.2-grams of methamphetamine along with other drug paraphernalia... and, packaging material.  Calkins was taken into custody and taken to the city jail pending arraignment on charges of driving while ability impaired combined influence of drugs/or alcohol... third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance... and, two counts of criminally using drug paraphernalia.


Five trespassers arrested on Prendergast Ave. in Jamestown after police spot one sought on warrants...
After spotting a city man wanted on an active bench warrant enter a vacant house... Jamestown police arrested him, and, four other people on trespassing and other charges.  City police say they spotted 23 year-old Justin Rowe on Prendergast Avenue about 1 p.m. last Friday... who was wanted on the warrant by the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office.  Officers say Rowe went into an apartment... that was supposed to be vacant... and tried to make contact.  Police got no response... and, forced entry.  They found Rowe... along with 36 year-old Keith Seice... 38 year-old Kristine McCool... 35 year-old William Blakey... and 56 year-old Ella Rodgers all staying there illegally.  All five were arrested without incident... and, taken to the city jail on charges of second-degree trespass... and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.  While at the scene... police also found that Seice was in the direct presence a juvenile who had a valid order of protection for Seice to stay away from them.  He was aditionally charged with endangering the welfare of a child... first-degree criminal contempt... and aggravated Family Offense.  All five were held pending arraignment.


Jamestown man and woman arrested following domestic violence incident...
A man and a woman were arrested the past weekend following a domestic violence incident in which both injured each other.  City police were called to a parking lot on the westside shortly before 10 p.m. last Saturday for a "domestic incident in progress."  Officers say... on arrival... they found 37 year-old Karen Danson... and, 39 year-old Andrew Cooley at the scene and yelling at each other.  Further investigation found that both were injured in multiple parts of their bodies... and, had commited offenses against the other.  Cooley was arrested for third-degree assault... fourth-degree criminal mischief... criminal obstruction of breathing... and Aggravated family offense.  Danson was arrested for third-degree assault... and, fourth-degree criminal mischief.  Both were taken to the city jail pending arraignment.


Gillibrand announces legislation to allow job trainees to keep SNAP benefits...
U-S Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has announced legislation that would help prevent jobseekers from losing their Supplimental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.  The New York Democrat says the Training and Nutrition Stability Act would rectify loopholes within the SNAP Employment and Training program.  Gillibrand says taking those people who are training off SNAP is "shooting ourselves in the foot exacerbating the very problem we're trying to solve."  The legislation... if passed... would help ensure that SNAP recipients continue to receive nutritional assistance while working to secure employment.  Gillibrand says her office has heard directly from officials who run those training programs that those being trained are concerned about this.


Jamestown man arrested for causing disturbance, damaging room at Doubletree Hotel...
A city man has been arrested for allegedly becoming disorderly... and, damaging a hotel room at the Doubletree Hotel early last Saturday morning.  City police were called to the scene at 150 West Fourth St. about 12:15 a.m. on a report of a disorderly person that staff wanted removed.  Officer say they found that 46 year-old Stephen Baumann had damaged property within one of the room at the hotel.   Baumann was taken into custody without further incident... and, taken to the city jail on one count of fourth-degree criminal mischief.  He was issued an appearance ticket for city court.


Edible Art show kicks-off at Chautauqua Art Gallery...
A new exhibition opened last Friday at the Chautauqua Art Gallery on North Main Street in Jamestown.  It’s called ‘Edible Art.’  During the opening reception, gallery owner Leslie Calimeri says the work all revolves around food, and what local people like to have at home, or dining out.  The show includes the work of ten artists and was done in conjunction with the magazine Edible Western New York & Erie Lakeshore, published by Stephanie Burdo.  Burdo says Calimeri approached her and told her she really wanted to do an "edible art show..." and she said "great" because she wanted to do a similar type of edition of her magazine.  Burdo notes that while there are 80 ‘Edible’ publications like hers in the U.S. and Canada, she doesn’t know of anyone else who’s done an art show.  'Edible Art' will be on display at the gallery through Oct. 27.  


Chautauqua County host's annual "9/11" ceremony...
Chautauqua County's annual "9/11" remembrance ceremony honoring victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks will take place later today in Mayville.  Spokesperson Justin Gould says the local American Legion will host the ceremony at 12 p.m. in front of the County Courthouse on North Erie Street.  The ceremony will feature a few words from local dignitaries, a moment of silence and 21 gun salute.
