Unsafe use of heating implements blamed for Celoron house and garage fire...
The unsafe using of heating implements is listed as the cause of yesterday afternoon's huge fire destroyed a large garage... and, extensively damaged a home in the village of Celoron.  Celoron firefighters were called to the scene at 21 N. Allegheny Ave. shortly before 3 p.m.  Fire Chief Jamison Justham says first crews on the scene found the garage heavily-engulfed in flames... and, black smoke billowing high into the air.  Justham says there was initially some mild exposure to the house... but, then the flames pushed into the house... and, even set some small grass fires around that area.  Justham says it took about two-hours to snuff out the fires.  No significant injuries were reported.  Justham says the home is likely going to be a total loss... and this morning was reported as such.  Celoron was joined at the scene by crews from Lakewood... Busti... Fluvanna... Bemus Point... Ashville...Panama... Falconer... Lander, Pa., and, the County FAST Team.  


Six arrested following alleged robbery, assault and unlawful imprisonment in Jamestown...
Six people -- five from Jamestown and one from Buffalo -- face charges after allegedly robbing, assaulting and holding a victim against their will on the city's northside last week.  Jamestown police say they were called to 326 Stowe St. for a "well-being check" shortly before 8 p.m. last Wednesday.  Prior to arrival... officers were told that a man was being held inside the home after being robbed and assaulted.  Several minutes after police arrived... the male victim exited the residence with two other men.  They say the male victim had several facial injuries, and he was taken to UPMC Chautauqua Hospital for treatment.  Officers found that one of the two men who came out with the victim was one of the people that had robbed and assaulted him.  That suspect was identified as 41 year-old Benjamin Preston of Jamestown... who was arrested and taken to the city jail.  Officers were also told there were other suspects inside the residence who were involved.  Police called several times for them to surrender... but, they did not.  A warrant was executed by the JPD SWAT Team.  Inside... officers arrested Dwayne Lowery of Buffalo... along with Anthony Wallace... Scott Eddy... Ramsey Huddleston... and, Jhaszmine Mitchell... all of Jamestown along with another female victim.  All six were taken to the city jail on charges including second-degree robbery... and unlawfull imprisonment... third-degree assault... fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.  They were held pending arraignment.


Jamestown man arrested for allegedly holding woman against her will during southside domestic incident...
A city man is accused of holding a woman against her will... and, hitting her multiple times during a weekend domestic incident on Jamestown's southside.  City police were called to the location shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday... and, spoke with the victim and the suspect -- identified as 35 year-old Hector Guevara.  While investigating... police say Guevara tried to push his way by an officer and leave the scene.  He was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.  Officers say they found that Guevara had struck the woman multiple times... would not let her leaving the resident... and, took away her cell phone while she was trying to call 9-1-1 for help.  Guevara was jailed pending arraignment on charges including second-degree unlawful imprisonment... fourth-degree criminal mischief... second-degree harassment... and, second-degree obstructing governmental administration.


City woman faces felony charges following assault and theft...
A Jamestown woman faces several felony charges after assaulting a woman... then stealing her cellphone and car during a domestic incident.  City police were called to a southside address just after 7 PM last Friday... and, found an adult, and two juvenile victims.  Officers say their investigation found that 38 year-old Serena Ellis had struck the adult victim in the face... and, then restrained the victim and forcibly stole the victim's cell phone. Police say Ellis then stole the victim's vehicle and fled the scene.  They say the two juvenile victims were in close proximity to Ellis and the victim when the incident occurred.  While still at the scene... an officer saw Ellis return to the scene.  While an officer attempted to arrest Ellis... she physically resisted and caused injury to an officer.  After a struggle with officers... Ellis was taken into custody and taken to the city jail on charges including second-degree robbery, and unlawful imprisonment... third-degree grand larceny... two counts of endangering the welfare of a child... resisting arrest... and, unnecessary noise.

Molitor announces run for 150th Dist. Assembly seat...
A north county Republican who has served as First Assistant District Attorney in Chautauqua County has announced he's running for the 150th District Assembly seat.  Andrew Molitor last weekend announced he is running to succeed current Assemblyman Andy Goodell... who announced last week that he's not seeking another term.  Goodell's seventh-term will end on Dec. 31 of this year.  Molitor has been a prosecutor for the past 10 years... and, he also supports an agenda to cut taxes... curb government spending... and, redouble efforts to make New York more business-friendly.  The Post-Journal also reported late last week that former Fredonia Mayor, Doug Essek, is also seeking the GOP nomination to run for the Assembly.  One Democrat... Fredonia's Michael Bobseine... recently announced he is running for the seat this Fall.


Green Tie Affair in Celoron a big success...
It was a familiar sound... at a new location Sunday night as auctioneer Dakota Peterson was getting bids for a pie at the 10th annual 4-H Green Tie Affair, held for the first time at the Harbor Hotel in Celoron.  Chautauqua County Four-H Lead Educator, Lindsey Cresanti, estimated they had surpassed their $10,000 goal for the amount earned for the youth service program.  Meeder says success at the Green Tie dinner is essential to keep 4-H programs going in Chautauqua County.  There was a $1,000 pie that was a cherry pie, purchased by Pete James of Chautauqua Transportation, in honor of his late wife Bonnie, whom he meet at the county fair.
