Media One Radio to Launch Local Latino Music Program
Latino Music Showcase to Begin October 17 on 106.9
For area residents of Hispanic heritage excitement is building as musica en español will soon be featured on the local radio dial as 106.9 KISS-FM will premiere “The Latino Music Showcase” each Saturday from 10:00 P.M. – Midnight, beginning on October 17th. Hispanics have the highest inclination to listen to radio of any ethnic group, according to Nielsen Media. In fact, more than 93 percent of all Hispanics use radio each week.
Andrew Hill, Media One Radio Group General Manager said, “We believe statistics like this, combined with the fact that roughly 10% of Chautauqua County’s population is of Hispanic heritage, supports the decision to provide this programming. I’m excited to see how the program will benefit the area business community and not-for-profit agencies that would like to connect with this powerful audience.”
The program will be hosted by local resident Ben “Duke” Soto, a graduate of SUNY Fredonia that joined the area’s largest radio group as a Marketing Executive last month. “There is no language barrier when it comes to music,” says Soto. “In recent years it has been very common to see many artists featured on the Top 40 music charts being of Hispanic heritage. Pop music has always been open to cross over artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Marc Anthony, Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias and more recently Pitbull, Daddy Yankee, J. Balvin and Bad Bunny.”
“As a locally owned radio group, we are proud to serve the local communities – to inform and entertain our listeners, support our advertisers and adjust to the times,” says Hill. “With the addition of Ben we now have a local resource that can help our advertisers connect with this audience and provide programming that cannot be heard anywhere else in the area.”
The show will help to bridge efforts of local not-for-profits wishing to connect with the Spanish speaking population that is interested in obtaining information on available health care, employment and financial services in addition to education opportunities.
One of the first organizations to sponsor the program is the Child Advocacy Program of Chautauqua County who recognized this program will provide them with a direct connection to the Hispanic community in the county. Area organizations wishing to be featured on the new radio program as a sponsor or guest can call 716-487-1151 or Email Ben.
