News Director Terry Frank lightens things up this week by featuring interviews with most of the newest eight members of the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame. They were were inducted in front of a packed house during last month's annual banquet at the Lakewood Rod-and Gun Club. Hall of Fame President Randy Anderson says the additions brings the total number inductees to 257. The Class of 2026 is high-light by several runners and former track-and-field stars. One is Marathoner Jennifer Giebner-Donato of Dunkirk... who calls it "amazing" to be inducted. Another runner was former New York State High School Cross-Country champion Brian Hull of Southwestern High School... who gave a lot of credit to his former High School Coach -- and fellow Hall of Famer -- Tom Priester. He also credited fellow runners, including late SWCS stand-out runner, Jerry Marra. Other inductees included: former Frewsburg softball and swimming stand-out Brianne Prince-Hazelton... who is still coaching at Forestville Central School, and took them to the state championships last year. Terry also spoke with the late Dr. Karl Englert's son and daughter about him being inducted for having won several regional golf championships... along with former track and field stand-out Trevor Hitchcock of Falconer -- who also played several other sports in high school. He also spoke with former Southwestern High School baseball pitching stand-out Kerry Kellogg from Lakewood. Kellogg was also a stand-out in college, and had a short, but, solid pro career in the minor leagues. The others included the late Dan Wolfe... who was an all-around athlete at the former Cardinal Mindszenty High School in Dunkirk... and Fredonia Wrestling stand-out Kenny Betts, who won a state championship back in the late 2000s.
