Jamestown Mayor Kim Ecklund joins News Director Terry Frank this week to discuss several city matters... including the hiring of a new police chief. The City Council last week unanimously approved promoting Deputy Chief Scott Forster to the position, left open by the retirement of Tim Jackson. Ecklund says it was important for lawmakers to first approve eliminating the Public Safety Director's position from the Police Chief's position so Forster could be hired. Ecklund says the moves will allow the police and fire department's to have their own, autonomous chiefs, and will save the city money. We also discuss the further realignment of the police and fire departments with Acting Fire Chief Ryan Rousch. With that... she says some lieutenants have been acting battalion chiefs while they await formal training so moves can be made permanent. We also discuss the possible elimination of the city Fire Battalion Chief positions. The condition of city streets is also discussed with potholes being an issue in a few places... and, Ecklund also notes that the New York State Dept. of Transportation's total reconstruction of East Second Street from East Fourth to Tiffany Avenue in Falconer is now underway. East Second is also State Route 394 in the city.
