Community Spotlight for May 10-17, 2026

Chautauqua County Executive P.J. Wendel joins our Terry Frank this week to discuss three important topics. The first is the recent closing of Bush Industries ready-to-assemble furniture plant in the county's Mason Industrial Park. Wendel says it's disappointing to see Bush's parent company, eSolutions, make the decision to close the plant... which has been at that location for just over 40 years. He says creditors decided it was best to close and sell of the assets instead of taking three potential offers to help the company out. While that's taken place... Wendel says there's already interest in the building. We also discuss the local homeless issue... which has seen one hotel shut-down completely... which another has had half of it condemned due to deplorable conditions. Wendel says the problem is the way tenants have treated the property in some cases... but in many it's also the hotel operators not taking care of the buildings and or rooms. We also discuss the executive's recent tour around Chautauqua Lake with the Lake Association to see how the lake looks this Spring... and, where possible weed issues could be.
