News Director Terry Frank talks with Jamestown Mayor Kim Ecklund about a number of topics this week, led by a 5.5-million proposal to dredge and clear out nine channels along the Chadakoin River to minimize flooding after years of neglect. Ecklund says there's a combination of federal, and state funding that'll be used, along with a 20% city match. Acting Public Works Director Mark Roetzer recently outlined the proposal for city lawmakers, noting they anticipate the project lasting about three-years. We also discuss the DPW's annual list of street and road construction projects going on. There are a few full repaving projects, including a small part of Isabella Street, where the city is focusing some new development. Ecklund also says the annual "Hands On" clean-up day was to be held this past Saturday, with a lot of work to be done along the city's Riverwalk, as well as neighborhood areas. We also discuss the annual flag placement at Soldier's Circle at Lakeview Cemetery that will take place at 6 p.m. this coming Thursday, May 21... the annual Blue Star Mothers program at Veteran's Park on Saturday at 10 a.m.... and, the annual Memorial Day Parade will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25, and end with a special program at Soldier's Circle.
