News Director Terry Frank welcomes in Jamestown Community Baseball members Randy Anderson and Greg Peterson, and, City Parks Manager and Arborist, Dan Stone this week to talk about the 85th anniversary of what was first-called Jamestown Municipal Stadium... which opened in 1941. Anderson... who is a well-known local sports historian... discusses the history of the stadium -- and the prelude to the stadium. He says it started with a former PONY League team that played at Allen Park, and then Celoron Park. After the local PONY League team left the area due to substandard facilities. However... in 1940, the city got the Niagara Falls franchise, and eventually they moved into the new 20-acre facility in 1941. It's now Diethrick Park. Dan Stone talks about the evolution of stadium upkeep, and who is responsible for what. Greg Peterson discusses the founding of Jamestown Community Baseball, which keeps ownership local, and, not having to deal with the whims of out-of-town ownership for the Jamestown Tarp Skunks Collegiate Baseball Team.
