This week... Executive Director Dana Corwin with the Chautauqua County Office for Aging Services joins our Terry Frank to talk about a recent event for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and other topics. As for the awareness day in Mayville... Corwin says they hope awareness comes from it through "shining a light on it." She says it comes down to community education, support services, and community partnerships. We also discuss the various types of abuse, which can be neglect, and psychological in addition to physical. She says emotional abuse can also be prevalent in those situations. We also discuss scams... including the well-known "Grandparent Scam" which now can involve use of artificial intelligence to copy a grandchild's voice to use to call and pressure the grandparent into paying money to pay "law enforcement" a fine... or a possible kidnapper looking for ransom. We also discuss the various services that Office for Aging Services offers... including an upcoming program with local State Senator George Borrello dealing with senior issues -- including scams.
