Jamestown Mayor Kim Ecklund joins News Director Terry Frank this week to discuss a number of issues since she was not available for the June program. They discuss the city recently being awarded a second, 10-million New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant for about a dozen projects across the city. Ecklund says it was exciting to receive the only DRI grant in Western New York... and, that's it's focus of "Core to Shore" is important to tying the downtown area to the Chadakoin Riverfront, and Riverwalk. One of the key proposals she's interested in seeing is what happens with the former Furniture Mart Building at the corner of Washington and West Second Streets. The building is considered by city and Chautauqua Co. development leaders to have a lot of potential for new businesses. We also discuss the city council approving a resolution to apply to the Appalachian Regional Commission for up to 1.5-million for a new, Local Development Corporation loan program for economic development efforts. We discuss city events coming up... including the on-going Summer Concert Series at Allen Park... and, the upcoming, 13-year-old Babe Ruth World Series which is coming Aug. 15-22 at Diethrick Park in Jamestown. Ecklund, who is also Vice-President of the local committee, says they are still looking for sponsors to buy-out the ball park two of the days, along with Host Family Ambassadors, and Diamond Girl Ambassadors for the tournament.
