This week... our Terry Frank speaks with Gerry Rodeo Chairman Tom Atwell about the 81st edition of the Rodeo which will be held Aug. 5-8, 2026. Again this year... Atwell says they'll have one performance each of the four nights of the Rodeo, beginning at 8 p.m. He says they're just putting the finishing touches on work by the committee on the grounds... including the replacement of 70 bleacher planks... which is the most they're replaced in one year. He says some painting is also being completed. Atwell says the rodeo will feature eight competitions for the professional cowboys and cowgirls that come to Gerry. He says they expect between 250 and 300 competitors to enter. This year's purse will be between 30,000 and 40,000 for the eight divisions, which will include bareback riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling and others. There is a new rodeo clown this year for the entertainment... and, Announcer Greg Simas is back for his 17th year. Prior to each night's competitions... the Gerry Volunteer Fire Dept. will have it's yearly beef barbecue dinners being served beginning at 5 p.m. in the dining hall on the rodeo ground off Route 60. The rodeo benefits the fire department, and for more information... go on-line to gerryrodeo.org.
