Mayor Kim Ecklund of Jamestown joins our Terry Frank this week to discuss three significant issues facing the city. The first one is the tentative budget that Ecklund and her finance team are working to put together for 2027. Ecklund says City Comptroller Ericka Thomas has finished up interviews with major department heads... but, adds they're still getting sales tax numbers for the third-quarter, which will determine what kind of money to plug into that revenue line for next year. Ecklund says she still has two department heads to talk with. She adds that expenses will be important... especially for gasoline. That's namely with diesel fuel which -- as of the program's taping -- was 5.98 per gallon nationwide. The budget is due by Oct. 8. We also discuss a move towards creating a municipal memorial for late City Councilman Tony Dolce. Ecklund says she's spoken with Dolce's family, and they have pretty much worked out something that will be announced sometime in October. The third-topic is the city's 10-million Downtown Revitalization Initiative proposal, which has already been through at least three public and committee meetings. Ecklund says the city has submitted about two-dozen projects for funding, but, new ones may be added before the number is cut to 10 to 12. The next public meeting of the Local Planning Committee for the DRI will be held on Sept. 30.
