This week, News Director Terry Frank speaks with the Democrat challenger in the race for the 57th NYS Senate District race, Victoria Guite-Williams from the town of Alabama in Genesee County. Guite-Williams says she lives in a trailer home on the Tonawanda-Seneca Reservation. She is a graduate of the SUNY College at Fredonia, and worked abroad in South Korea and elsewhere before coming back to Buffalo, and then the reservation. Guite says part of her reason for running was to oppose a data center that was proposed for the edge of their small reservation. She says she would fight for lowering costs by making sure big businesses are paying their fair share for the services they receive. As for the costs for electricity and natural gas... she believes part of the problem is those utilities have become monopolies. She says she would also push for guard rails for Artificial Intelligence... especially regarding use in the classroom and by schools. She feels that communities should make their own decisions on whether to allow data centers to be built in those communities. As for health care... Guite says Medicaid and Medicare need to be brought to scale because of inflation... and, she says younger people are opting not to have children because of the cost.
